Just got back from a visit to Boston with the family and had a real good time however we spent a day in Salem which was "very" interesting but I think one of the witches put the whammy on me. I got food poisoning and was out of commission for about 18 hours...
We called a pharmacist and he said you just have to ride it out but drink some flat Coke and eat a little dry toast, it helped a little...
this leads me to my question?

what are your home remedies?

for just about anything:

burns
headaches
cold sores
upset stomach
cold or fever
itchy butt
toothache
etc.

what works for you?

I wait them out. But I ALWAYS have water. On Saturday I was feeling dizzy and had a sore throte, but I REALLY wanted to go to Philidelphia, so I went, and by the end of the day I was feeling better.

When you get a cold sore the key thing is to get your behind to the nearest duane reade, cvs, walgreens, etc. and buy some Carmex it works wonders. Even if you get those cracks in the corner of your mouth sometimes in the winter it helps that too.

As for a stomach ache my best advice is take 2 mint tums and lie on your stomach for about 1/2 an hour you'll feel tip top in no time.

Drink this gingerroot tea for head & chest congestion. It's great when you're fighting the chills.

Grate a 1-inch piece of peeled ginger root.
Put it in a pot with 2 cups of cold water, bring to a boil, lower heat, and simmer 5 minutes.
Add 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or more or less to taste) and simmer 1 minute more. Remove from heat.
Add 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, honey to taste, and 1 or 2 cloves of mashed garlic.
Let cool slightly, and strain if desired.

for cuts i use a zippo lighter or any lighter and burn them closed. it's worked for small cuts, after taking glass or bb's out of your body. for bigger cuts or wounds heat a knife and apply. this is no joke i really do this

sounds like some good suggestions...
i'm gonna suggest the Carmex to my wife and daughter, they're prone to getting cold sores...

my Dad is the king of botched home remedies...

>baldness / he started going bald in his 20's, i remember him walking around the house with a cardboard pyramid on his head...he read there was some power that may grow hair, didn't work...he just took alot of abuse from me and my 4 brothers...

>athletes foot / he used clorox, no more athletes foot but burned his feet and passed out right before his 40th Wedding Anniversary party...
i had ringworm on my hand when i was a kid, he got me with the clorox too...

My hubby is afraid to get sick or hurt around me because of all the folk remedies my mom taught me.
One day he burnt himself and I grabbed his hand and wiped the burn on my hair. He thought that I was nuts but he had to admit it stopped hurting.

I've heard flat Coke for tummy-aches, too.

It bothers me so much, I can't drink actual Coke!

I prefer ginger tea (Yogi Tea makes a good one) for stomach aches.

I've been a big fan of Celestial Seasonings' "Wellness Teas" when I get sick or stressed. Currently, I'm staving off a cold with the cold & flu season tea. It's also helping me breathe easier at work!

I also like Chamomile tea when I'm feeling lousy. It's a natural sedative.

And nothing beats hot and sour soup when you've got a stuffy nose!

One of the my mexican workers shared this gem with me.

If you have a toddler that is having troubles going to sleep, grab his/her nose with your thumb and forefinger. Give the nose a quarter turn. He said the toddler will cry for about 10 seconds and then fall asleep.

I haven't tried it yet.

I think if you turn your kid's nose 90 degrees, they take them away from you.
And then you can sleep...

Poor bastard has to do that 8 times in a row just to get to sleep at night.
