Any else miss the way the internet used to be, before the boom and bust? One of the greatest sites was IMDB before Amazon bought it. Thousands of free movie excerpts. Ice box was also another great site. Mr. Wong and the guys on the Space ship were hysterical. Everything was FREE. Name your favorites that are now gine.

I miss the FTP chat rooms before netscape and IE came out. Now that was early internet fun.

OLGA: the on-line guitar archives used to be great. but they got threatened with law suits so they had to cut a lot of stuff out, like lyrics :(

The ~Q was badass.

When mIRC was cool(All five minutes of that)

Or the original message board games on USENET.

There used to be a whole network of goofy webrings I was a part of when i had my first website, The Blue Bus, The Soda Popinski Fan Ring. These kids today don't know a good webring anymore.

What about when STILE project was still cool?

OR when IParty first came out, how F'n cool was that?

I can't tell you when the last time I had to use Telnet was.

Young 'uns!

I remember logging into VAXes with a 300 baud modem to play text-based adventures! I used to call all the bulleting boards in my area to download games. Granted they were like 100K or so, but when you're downloading at 300 or even 1200 baud, it still took a while.

Hell, I remember typing in titles to IMDB and getting "No entry found". And that was for some mainstream films.

My favorite, though was before URL's were introduced. I think I still have a small notebook with lists of IP's scrawled in it. For both FTP and Gopher.

This one isn't even that old, but I remember a site called AdCritic. You could view thousands of commercials from all over the world as well as some spoofs, all free. It had a huge database where you could search for ads and you could find out what music was used. Like everything else on the 'net, you now have to pay. $70 a year! Booooo! <P>

Doesn't anyone remember Kibo? The internet was covered with "Kibo is God." Wired did a feature story on him and everything.

Or how about when Wired was a cool mag about technology, instead of the bullshit business publication they've become.

And Miss Haze, there's still free porn. You're just looking in the wrong places.

Free porn one of the only benefits of being a computer tech.. The customers do the downloading for me. :) I just steal it from them..

My first internet connection a dial up to a vms account at SUNY ALbany. The way i surfed the web was thorugh lynx. All text based surfing. I had to use kermit to file transfers between my shell account and my pc.
