View Full Version : Best Male Vocal Singer
I was thinking about this the other day. Who do you think has the best vocals (male)for a rock singer in the last 30 years?
Although R&F ride on him a lot, I think Steve Perry. And also Roy Orbison!

That's because Justice is a little bit fruity.
But back to topic, I think the ultimate lead singer/songwriter/performer in the last 25-30 years is Freddy Mercury...which, even though Freddy was openly gay, is a less gay statement than saying Lance Bass is an "awesome singer."
...silent, but violent.

Who do you think has the best vocals (male)for a rock singer in the last 30 years?
Sheer Power of voice? Paul Rodgers of "Bad Company"
Most melodic and best phrasing? Paul Carrack
These are off the top of my head, I'll probably change my mind in the next 34 seconds.

I agree with the Roy Orbison pick. A voice that could not be imitated. A voice to me that is great and too often imitated is Eddie Vedder.

For the sheer beauty and emotional quality of their voices, no one can touch the classic soul singers like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, etc.
If we're talking rock and roll, however, I use different citeria. I look for someone who's got power and energy and not necessarily what would be considered a "pretty" voice.
My vote would probably go to the late Bon Scott of AC/DC.

Watch the way you speak about board members.
It's the same thread.

Yojimbo, major points for The Young Ones vid.....classic.
x3 for Maynard....sick range, soft voice....simply amazing.
.....but Danzig is less Elvis and more Jim Morrison, and for that, he gets the rip off award in my book.
