Remember that organization that considered themselves world class, yet only ran matches in Minnesota and Saskatchewan in the winter? The matches were real snoozers, like Buck "rock and Roll" Zumhoffe against Steve Regal, for the thirtieth time. Anyone else have some memories?

One thing that always sticks out in my mind about AWA is Buddy 'I weigh 217 pounds!' Rose. I used to think he was the most disgusting looking man I've ever seen (little would I know...).
I also remember they tried so hard to compete for the WWf's MTV crowd by having music videos throughout the show, and at one point had their own wrestlers doing a song, 'WrestleRock Rumble.' Why promoters were so convinced wrestlers would make spectacular singers is a mystery I could never figure out.

How about Buddy Rose and Doug Somers winning the Tag team titles by beating Curt Hennig and Scott Hall by countout???

I remember Doug Summers, wasn't he like this senior citizen with bleached blond hair? What was his history? The AWA was a comedic league, although I do not think they meant to be that way. It was a great place for the 50s greats to ease into retirement. My fave AWA match: Larry Henning and Verne Gagne against the Road Warriors -- oh, joy
