View Full Version : She should get rid of her boyfriend

There's a bartender at a bar that I go to, and I've known her for several years, but only friendly, we don't really hang out together. She started dating this guy a few months back, and from what I've been hearing, primarily from my friends, is that he's an asshole. He was caught cheating on her and stuff like that, but after a brief period of being upset, she's "giving him another chance", because "he's been good for the last couple of weeks".
I started paying a little more attention to see for myself what this guy is about. He comes in when she works and watches her like a hawk. When she talked to me, I was getting these dirty looks from him from across the bar- just for a 40 second conversation.
I don't get why girls do this. I think once a cheater, always a cheater. I and a few guys I drink with have suggested that she move on, but she's too nice to just kick the guy to the curb.
I'm not looking to be the "Knight in Shining Armor swooping in to rescue her", I just am trying to figure out why she doesn't see why this guy is bad for her.

she's too nice or has so low self esteem that she can't let go. Unfortunately this is one of those situations where you cant help - she needs to figure this one out for herself. If you say something, and he finds out then "you are the reason for their breakup" not him. It could also backfire with her as well.

Please don't tell me she has used the phrase "But you don't know what he's really like".
I always loved hearing that one. You'll be the nice guy she can talk to but she'll still date the asshole.

as pathetic as it sounds, sometimes you think if you hold onto somebody long enough, they'll change, or become more of "what you want". Big mistake..Never happens. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way, and I'm sure that's what will happen with her, unfortunately.

Just another example of an asshole winning. Women always say they want a "nice guy" but always "seem" to stay with an ass. Why? Because deep down in places they dont talk about at cocktail parties, they want him to be a dick, they NEED him to be a prick...sorry, where was I? Oh yeah, alot of women basically have a need to be treated like shit apparently, which is why nice guys finish last.

I hate that almost as much as I hate "But he's the only one that knows the real me" ...oh shut up
She should kick his ass to the curb...its only a matter of time before he cheats on her again. And even if he doesn't, she'll always think he is.

I vote it's low self esteem, but it's also none of your business and you shouldn't get involved.

i usually only feel this way if i want to bang the girl, but it never happens and she stays with her mr wonderfull.
"YOUR FUCKING WARNED DON'T EVER GO OVER MY HEAD AGAIN..YOU MUDDER FUCKER YOU"
I always get a good laugh when someone says "Deep down, he's really a good person."
Aside from your ax murderers and rapists, isn't everyone basically a good person deep down?
It doesn't mean they're worth spending time with, however.
Some people eventually learn, while others continually go for people who are nothing but trouble. All your well-intended advice will fall on deaf ears, however.
It's one of those things that someone has to learn by themselves, if ever.

You can't convince a stupid person that they're stupid, they just can't understand.

Becareful if you feel you need to get involved, she may use you to get closer to him, or feel she's getting closer to him.

me too, its not even worth getting involved. you know you want her, but it looks like its not going to happen for now. need to not worry about her so much and just focus on yourself.

Gaia, the bar's in Jersey.
you know you want her, but it looks like its not going to happen for now. need to not worry about her so much and just focus on yourself.Actually, it's not really like that. I consider her more like a sister.
As far as "minding my own business goes", it's kinda hard when she tells me about what he did (of her own volition, I didn't prod at all), then a week later tells me that she hooked back up with him. I don't consider her stupid, she's quite intelligent. The self-esteem thing seems possible.
