I maintain that oatmeal is not a breakfast cereal. Sure, you eat it for breakfast and it might be a cereal grain, but hot stuff isn't cereal. Breakfast cereal is served cold with milk.. like Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Captain Crunch.

To summarize-

Hot Oatmeal: not cereal

Raisin Bran: cereal

oatmeal is a cereal, and there are other hot cereals, as well. the characteristic of being cold is not a necessary one for cereal-dom. i maintain, and will always maintain, that there are both cold and hot bowled breakfast foods

Of course it's cereal. If you got your beloved Raisin Bran all soggy and mushy and then nuked it, you'd basically have oatmeal.

I don't know Mojopin Al is fruit loops and he's not cerial although he is reported to be Hot and musshy at times

oatmeal, is a breakfast food, but I don't think its a cereal. Cereal is processed, refined grains, and comes in ginormous boxes with pretty colors. oatmeal is whole, unprocessed grains, and comes in a canister with an old quaker on it. horses eat oats. ever see a horse eat Honey Smacks?

btw: anyone know what plant oats come from?

my doggie was named oatmeal..i had her since i was 6 adn had to put her bto sleep the day before THANKSGIVING...thanx alot ADF..now im all depressed from the title of this thread..your no longer super neat-o kean anymore...now ill go sit in the corner and eat wet cigarrette butts

Cookie Crisp is about the dumbest idea for a cereal ever. Why not just dump Chips Ahoy into a bowl and call that cereal? What next, they'll make a "cereal" out of Oreos? Yeah, right!

i leave, come back, and this is what happens. you know, WWII was started this same way. Adolf was in a Austrian restaurant when he asked for oatmeal cereal. The Jewish waiter said that oatmeal wasn't a cereal, and Adolf blew his nuts off.

Listen, Oatmeal - Ferina - Creme of Wheat - those are called "hot cereals." You can not call them cereals, because the term "cereal" implys boxed cereals eaten cold with milk.
There are the cereal purists who maintain that even "hot cereals" shouldn't even be called "hot" cereal. I feel that this is unfair to those breakfast types.
Boxed breakfast meals with milk which are hot can never be called a cereal, only a hot cereal.
From one bowl and into another, it's good eatin'.

Oatmeal sucks. Anything lumpy disgusts me. I'm more a Cream of Wheat or Farina girl....with lots of brown sugar. Yummy.
