Folks, this is why I beat my head up against the wall when it comes to the WWE.
Here's the latest bit of foolishness from Vince.

U.K.'s Daily Star features a full-page story that Vince McMahon has offered Lennox Lewis $5 million to fight Brock Lesnar at next year's "No Mercy." The story also discusses other fighters who have taken part in wrestling storylines, namely Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, and Lewis, who appeared at SummerSlam '92.

WWE and Lennox Lewis's people have had at least 2 meetings over the past 2 weeks regarding the boxer possibly taking on Brock Lesnar sometime in 2003. No deal has been reached and the only thing that has been agreed upon is to continue discussions.
At this point, it seems to be a longshot that a deal between Lewis and WWE can be reached. The main reason for this is that Lewis demands that the fight be a total shoot. While WWE does not have a problem with that, the problem comes up in regards to the rules. With Lewis being a boxer and Lesnar being a wrestler, how the rules are set up will go along way in who will actually win the bout.
The original date that was talked about was WWE No Way Out next February, but that date has been axed due to the Lennox Lewis/Vitali Klitschko Heavyweight Title fight being pushed back to February 1st. The date now being discussed is No Mercy of next year.
Traditionally, a match of this magnitude would happen at WrestleMania, but if it happens, it will be a shoot and Lewis would not want to fight Brock just 1-2 months after defending his Heavyweight Title against Klitschko.
The Lewis camp started talks with a $7.5 million dollar asking price, but obviously that price will likely come down.
Vince McMahon is said to be extremely excited over the potential Lewis/Brock shoot fight, but again, for now it seems unlikely that both sides will be able to work out a deal.

My question to all of you.....do you really care? Cause I don't.
Lewis wants this as a shoot. I picture this thing being one huge abortion....partly because I don't think Lesnar can kick Lewis' ass in a shoot, wrestlers are notoriously awful in shoots...but even supposing Brock wins - what's the benefit? The WWE can parade him around saying, "He beat the boxing champ!" But it means nothing in pro wrestling. I doubt it will help Lesnar get any more over, as a monster or otherwise. The people who mark for Brock already do so. The people (like me) who are so far unimpressed with the monster crap (show me some amateur wrestling, damnit) won't care if he beats the shit out of some limey.
For a good editorial on this whole silly mess, go here http://www.puroresupower.com/upload/news.cgi?news=146 and check out Zach Arnold's op ed. It draws a good parallel between Vince McMahon & Antonio Inoki (who's pulled this shoot v. wrestler BS before), and gives a pretty good rationale as to why this match will likely fail.
