old school burning toy(?)

This came to mind the other day, and I cant figure out the name of the toy, if you could even call it that.

Description: a tiny earplug sized lump of something(looked like coal).

You'd light it on fire, and as it burned, it would expand into what looked like a tiny piece of terd. It smelled like matches as it burned.

I'm not joking!!!
I used to buy these things and burn them like crazy, being the pyro i was as a child.
God, such a fire hazard!!!

When i went to upstate NY earlier this month my brother and his gf bought them, i was standing on the sidewalk and she put one down and set it on fire all i saw was her setting somethingon fire not knowing what it was, ive never even heard of a snake, snakes before in my life, i started freaking out and yelling that she was going to get arrested for destruction of private property, i thought she was just lighting shit opn fire
