Tonight on TV Land the classic Live saturday morning show Shazam will be airing tonight at 1:30 am.
Shazam! was a live-action TV show about teenager Billy Batson and his superhero alter ego, Captain Marvel, comic book and movie serial stars since the late 1930's. The title was actually an acronym for the Greek gods Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury, all of whom endowed Billy with his super powers of flight, speed, and strength, and with whom Billy would discuss various dilemmas.
Each week, Billy and his elderly friend and advisor, the aptly-named Mentor, drove around in a van, taking the law into their own hands and making the world a better place.
When trouble was nigh, a light flashed on the dashboard of the vehicle, and the gods would appear to Billy to discuss the situation. When Billy exclaimed "Shazam!," he was instantly transformed into the crime-fighting superhero Captain Marvel, complete with cape, red tights, and a yellow bolt of lightning across his chest.
After righting whatever was wrong, Captain Marvel returned to his normal teenage form, at which point he and Mentor would discuss the moral and/or ethical lesson they had learned.
Shazam! will be airing on the TV Land Kitschen during the month of October 2002. It will air every Friday & Saturday evening (or Saturday & Sunday morning) at 1:30 AM EST.

I always had a problem with that. Both the young boy/old man sleeping together in the same van and the vigilante thing. I smell something inappropriate.

How gay. Why won't someone bring back "The Greatest American Hero"?

I remember watching Shazam a.k.a Captain Marvel when I was a kid, I was disappointed to find out that the show wasn't anything like the comic books. In the comic books, Captain Marvel played a major part in the story and fought villains like Dr. Sivana (an evil genius) and his family, Mr. Mind (an evil worm with strong mental powers), and Black Adam (an evil version of Captain Marvel). In the series, Captain Marvel never fought super villains, only small time crooks, and he would only appear for a few minutes each episode. He would save the day and then deliver the moral of the story. That sucked but I still like the show

Black Adam rawks.
Captain Marvel really didn't start to interest me until the "Kingdom Come" miniseries. Then I realized how fucking brutal CM could be if he just went balls-to-the-wall insane.
It's too bad he's a goody goody in the comics, cause I'd love to see him beat the shit out of Superman again.

I hate to agree with Gvac...but I have watched a few episodes and the show is a lot lamer now than I remember it. With the cheesey special effects and bad dialogue and the unbelievable moral message attached to it

It was also recently announced that Jeff Smith of Bone fame will be writing Shazam soon.
And I'm partial to the cartoon, too.

Bone has always been said to be about 60 issues. I think 55 is the last one. 49 just came out last week.
