Enya is a vengence demon again. The whole episode reolved around that. Spike told Buffy that he has a soulumm were you even watching? the episode really had very little to do with the fact that anya's a vengence demon again. we knew that since last season anyway
in my opinion, the episode focussed on spike's new soul having, and his trying to deal with that. he's half crazy, and spent the bulk of the episode trying to act all spike like. anya, though, could tell about his soul.. i'm assuming it's a demon thing. anyway, he seems to be having quite some difficulty dealing with the burden (and rightfully so) slipping into fits of dementia and all.
the last scene in the episode was spike telling buffy what had happened and it was absolutely heartbreaking
i love this fucking show

Well at the End of the 1st one this did happen. It was going threw all the "big evils" for the seasons. My Guess is that It is "The First" again for this season

The shape shifting thing is the bad guy for this season. Supposedly the first, maybe the devil? Yes, I did see the 2nd episode. There was a giant killer worm(sort of like Tremors) killing people around town. It turns out some dude was turned into this by ANYA(if full vegence demon mode). Xander yells at her, she feels bad and reverses the spell just as Spike stabs the worm with a metal pole. The dude gets stabbed, but lives. Anya is now about to get in big trouble for reversing the spell. Spike fells like shit for stabbing the innocennt dude( at least I think he does, he does a bad James Dean Rebel without a cause overreaction here) He starts blabbering like a bitch and reveals that he has a soul. See, Told you a saw it, I just didn't have time to elaborate earlier. <P>
Spike's reaction to stabbing the guy at first was because of the chip the Adam Millitary group put in him 2 seasons ago that doesn't let him harm humans (only Demons).
Did they ever wrap up that whole story arch with Buffy coming back from the dead part demon from last season?

Did they ever wrap up that whole story arch with Buffy coming back from the dead part demon from last season?they really haven't. in the last episode, we saw spike fighting buffy and nothing happened to him, but they really didnt get into it. i know last season they said a little about how her molecular composition was somehow different from the speel taht brought her back, but that she was still human and all... i'm sure they'll get back to it. they never forget a loose end

I keep screaming it, but it's true - Spike is the BEST character on that damn show. Maybe the best character in the entire history of that show. No other character has gone through quite the evolution that Spike has. All of the characters have grown in some way, but Spike is perhaps the best of them all.
Marsters does such a fantastic job, and the character is written incredibly well.
I mean, just take a minute and dissect and analyze and ponder last week's episode, i.e. the development of Spike. He regained his soul...to be with Buffy. There is SO MUCH in that one act alone it's head-splitting. Just think about it. The guy no only suffered excrutiating torture and trials to just regain his soul, but he essentially conquered the demonic side of himself and chose to take back his soul, all for the slimmest chance of love with Buffy. "Why does a man do what he mustn't? For her. To be hers." He is giving her literally all he has worth anything. There is so many layers to his decision, and to what his character is becoming, it's astounding. Kudos to the writers and to James. Kudos to the entire show, who frequently goes above and beyond normal, passive TV to put out an outstanding product that's wonderfully acted, written, and directed, with little to no recognition from the mainstream (as in, awards or nominations), simply because it's a genre show.

Kudos to the entire show, who frequently goes above and beyond normal, passive TV to put out an outstanding product that's wonderfully acted, written, and directed, with little to no recognition from the mainstream (as in, awards or nominations), simply because it's a genre show.you've echoed my sentiments exactly, and that was extremely well put.
i have argued for more thatn 6 seasons now on behalf of this show to all the show's detractors... oddly enough, these are always people who have never seen the show. and, while i can understand their initial doubt, i defy anyone who's really given the show a chance to not, at the very least, appreciate how well written and acted it is.
and i agree wholeheartedly on what you've said about spike/marsters, se7en... i've always thought spike was a great charatcer since he showed up in "school hard" during season 2. and there was one simple reason why - he was the only charatcer on that show (at least to that point, although i'd wager the same is true overall) who ever truly respected buffy as an enemy. i remember how, back in the day, he would video tape buffy's fights and study them, in order to prepare himself to fight her. i always appreciated that about his character... basically every other enemy buffy has had before or since did not respect her or her ability, and were defeated becasue of it...
and now, to see the transformation spike's character has gone through is just astounding. i've said it a million times, and i'll not rest until everyone hears it - buffy is the best show on tv...

You people give me hope I thought I was the only adult that loved a show made for sixteen year old girls. Great writing, great acting, monsters, violence, and just to make sure they add in a lesbian or two. NICE

actually they did. tara did research and she told buffy that when she came back to life she had changed just enough to not be detected as human from spikes chip
and to the other dude
dont feel bad i turned my mom onto buffy
buffy and angel are really the only times we sit down and spend time 2gether. i love this friggin show.
i think we should just start an appreciation thread!!!

I have to agree with all of you regarding how amazing a character Spike is...what's always been great is that he's always wanted to be that Big Bad...I still love the scene in Season 4 right before the Initiative "chips" him, where he's talking all menacingly about being the big bad right before he's turned into harmless puppy.
Last week's episode, ending with him on the cross, had one of the best final scene's that I've ever seen on the show. It was fantastic, and JM was great.
And what's even better is that none of us have any idea where his characters could go from this point...the unpredictability of it makes it all that much better.
