I was just thinking about Video Games, and all the bad ones that come out.
So I got to thinking. With all the Blockbusters and East Coast Videos around the country, is this enough for video games to make back most of thier cash right there? Cause you KNOW that every store has like 3 of all the games, even the SHITTY ones.
So you do the math. That's A LOT of games. Factor in the casual buyers, and I think that you prety much have all the cash you put in, plus more.
I don't profess to know business, but I was just wondering how SHITTY cames keep getting made. I think that an Idea similar to this one may be it.
So put minimal $$ into develpoment and programming, and put most of the $$ into promotion, one of two REALLY FLASHY commercial grade cinema scenes that you only see in the intro, and a big name like Colon Powell, and you have a hit.

Yep, that about sums it up. Plus, if you have licensing in place (Simpsons, WWE/WWF, etc.) there seems to be less effort put into designing a great, unique game. Sadly, many of these get bought on name recognition alone. There are good wrestling games, and there are passable Simpsons games, but on the whole there have been a lot of disappointments released. <P>

I think that part of it is that a lot of younger gamers don't check reviews or anything for games. A game looks cool and they get it without any backround checking. The licence does help, because if anyone has played the terrible rip-off of crazy taxi Simpsons Road Rage you would know how bad it is. Fans of the series will pick it up or atleast rent it. So un-educated people pick up bad games because they don't know any better. Nothing is worse than forking down 50 bucks and getting a piece of shit game.

i just stick with mostly buying sports games from EA and "Medal of Honor". its rare for me to venture out and get a game like Halo, which turned out to be one of the funnest games i ever played, that and "Metal Gear Solid", which i cant wait to come out for Xbox

the only thing a video game needs these days is graphics.
Shitty game play, good graphics, the game will make money

Publicity makes or breaks a game to many un-experienced gamers. Many see what has the most commercials, and the most hype and go out and spend 50 bucks on a peice of shit. Everyone needs to find a trusty place to go for reviews and previews for any game.

well most games made from movies suck, but theres a reason. you see most of the money for production goes into buying the licence from the studio to make the game. so either they hire green programmers, or they hire a good programmer, but only give him like 3 weeks to write the code for the game. thus, shitty game. as far as all the other shitty games, the development studios just dont have the cash sometimes to make the quality game that we demand.
