I just bought a new pair of shoes. They are of peculiar but somewhat familiar shape. It took me TWO days to realize that these friggin' things look like Earth Shoes.
Yes I owned a pair of those anti-orthopedic,weird-ass,make you feel like you're always walking uphill pairs of crap.
Did you?Did your parents?...or maybe it was that aunt or uncle that now lives in Vermont?

My brother owns a pair (like anyone cares).
Me personally... would never wear them... but I hear that's the fashion now.

No Jafter,Desert boots were another chapter in my life of bad shoes.DB's were usually beige suede, ankle high, with 3 or 4 tie holes, and a gum sole. What really set them apart from all the rest was that they came with or without a fleece lining.Mine had a fleece lining that served two purposes.
1)When they got wet,the fleece would keep your feet soaking wet all day in school(the leather uppers were about 2 mm thick and more absorbent than Sponge Bob).
2)In summer, they doubled as a Petrie dish. You should have seen all the pretty colors between me toes!
Seriously; to answer your question,Earth Shoes basically had a sole in which the heel was lower than the rest of the rest of the "platform" part of the sole.Picture the ball of your foot and toes elevated higher than the heel.Try walking around the house like that even without shoes.
In the early 70's,if you had long hair, bellbottom jeans, and a wine sack, these shoes were definatly a part of your fasion ensemble.

I remember them. I thought they stopped making them 25 years ago. Really uncomfortable shoes. They were kind of a hippie fad thing.

Had them from Thom McCann, right after the Beatle boots.

I remember those shoes and passed on seeing them in Thomm Mc Canns. I heard some guy is bring them back and they are getting to be a rage again.
you have two choices: Castration or a one way ticket to New York
