Have you been lately? Man, it is so cool. I went to the New York Aquarium at Coney Island yesterday and it was a blast. Saw the dolphin show, the shark tanks and the Manta/Sting Ray tank (which was so cool). Afterwards, right to Nathans for Hot Dogs and French Fries.
If you haven't been, I highly recommend it.

Do they still have Beluga whales there? My son has been dying to go but I can't convince my husband or my dad to go. They are afraid it's changed too much over the years and the areas gotten to rough.

SoccerMom - the Beluga Whales are still there! Plus, if you're driving, it has an safe, enclosed parking lot. I wouldn't worry about it. I had my 7 month old daughter with me and my wife and felt safe every moment.

No, but if you're fast enough and nobody is looking - the sushi is incredible.

If you go during the summer, you can also catch a Brooklyn Cyclones game, which is also out in Coney Island. it's a great time, and the tickets are cheap.

Now I I'm pretty familiar with
the aquarium - last year I
got a whole behind the
scenes tour of the place
with the director - and I'm a
member of the WCS and all
that, but in all honesty, that
aquarium is a disgrace. For
New York city to have such
a crappy aquarium is
terrible. That whole
sea-cliffs area is an
improvement from what it
used to be, but did you
notice that for example in
Discovery Cove that all the
things that are kid-level and
supposed to demonstrate
various things fish do don't
work? It is absolutely
appalling when you
compare the aquarium to
the aquariums in Boston,
Monterey, or even Mystic.
I've never been to Atlantic
Marine World in riverhead; I
heard it is nice, but small.
Now I understand that they
are apparently redoing the
entire hall that you go
through when you first enter
(apparnetly when they built
it they screwd up and didn't
account for water getting on
the concrete floors and so
they're all cracking) but as
the aquarium is right now...
your time is far far better
spent at the Bronx Zoo or
even the Central Park Zoo.
The poor aquarium just
doesn't have any money.
Nevermind that they're in a
crappy ass neighborhood; it
just sucks. It's not their
fault,they're doing the best
they can with no money.
