Little Jimmy Nutley is an 11 year old boy in my neighborhood who lost the use of his legs at age the of 8 in a tragic boating accident. Though Jimmy has been confined to a wheelchair ever since, his spirit roams as free as ever. He still loves to go down to the dock with his half brother Sidney and go fishing, and even though he can't play little league anymore, he still goes down to the baseball field with his head held high and cheers on all of his friends. They even made Jimmy honorary captain of the team. If you ask anyone in town about him, they all have the same reply: "Captain" Jimmy is a special little boy.
But now he needs your help.
Two weeks ago Jimmy went to the hardware store with his stepdad, Bruce ("Big Brucie" to his friends) to buy some materials for the clubhouse Big Brucie and Jimmy were going to build. Big Brucie went inside and Jimmy waited outside; he said he wanted to enjoy "the splendid day!" Appearing out of seemingly nowhere, two thugs approached Jimmy. They took the 55 cents Big Brucie had given him to buy a 3 Musketeers bar (Jimmy's favorite), but apparently that wasn't enough for these heartless bastards. They tipped Jimmy over and stole his wheelchair. Big Brucie burst out of the store and gave chase, but it was too late. They were gone.
Jimmy's family does not have much money. Jimmy's biological father ran off with another man 3 months before Jimmy was born. Big Brucie just got laid off from the paper mill, and Jimmy's mom, Mary Nutley is frequently in and out of the hospital battling illnesses stemming from her obesity. Doctors say she had a rare glandular disorder which prevents her body from properly processing food into energy leading to her 400+ lb. frame. Jimmy now gets around on Sidney's skateboard, strapped down with his stepdad's belt. Still, he never complains. He has actually grown quite good at getting around like this, but it's still simply wrong: Jimmy needs his wheelchair. If anyone would like to help, please send any thing you can to:
