Johnny Unitas is probably the greatest QB to ever play the game. Never mind stats, I saw this guy and he was one of the most dominating players of all time. I remember seeing him and my favorite Joe Namath go at it, combining for over 800 passing yards. It's still a record.
As for Hayes, he was a rarity. A track and field athlete and Olympic Medalist who succeded in the NFL. He was billed as "the worlds fastest man", he was a tough customer who was a dangerous weapon for the Cowboys.
They don't make them like these guys anymore.

I heard there is a petition going around that seeks to rename the Ravens' stadium "Johnny Unitas Stadium".

That would be a welcome change from all those "Company Name" stadiums.

If it's just a lull, why am I bored right out of my skull?

Yeah it's true, I'll miss Johnny U and Bullet Bob Hayes. Heck, I saw that game you're talking about, that's one of the reasons I'm on this board - I know you'll remember stuff I won't! I remember playin' street football as a kid...playin' QB I thought I was Joe Willie. Wide receiver, you're Bob Hayes, Fastest Man Alive!

Joe Willie was my hero, but I think a healthy Unitas would have beaten the Jets.

From all accounts I've heard, Johnny U was every bit a clutch performer as Joe Montana, and the greatest "field general" ever. He played in an era when quarterbacks still called their own plays, and really revolutionized NFL football.

Ditto for Hayes, one of the earliest deep threats in the NFL.

Maybe the Jets should kick Hackett out and let Vinny call his own plays. They may win a game? <P>
