Wastes of Time at Work

I don't mean to go off on a rant here, but...

Meetings, classes, seminars, blah blah blah. On Wednesday I HAD to go to a class for my company's ANTIQUATED database system. Thus, I had to skip lunch and work til 6 to make up for lost time. Today, I got called into an "emergency" meeting about one of my "red alert" projects. So, I got to work until 7:30 tonight. Tomorrow, my company is having a "Welcome to Hoboken" party for the employees-- attendance is MANDATORY (since when is a party "mandatory???"). Hence, I will be in the office until 8pm catching up on what I should have been doing during the suck-ass rah rah session.

My company does shit like that. We just had a "group lunch": an hour and a half listening to my co-workers talk about kids, spouses and significant others. Usually, I blow these things off but during my last review I was "strongly encouraged" to start attending them.

most meetinge are a waste. Best comment I heard - hey we're having too many meetings - let's have a metting to discuss how to stop it.

ugh. when I'm in a meeting I like to get in, discuss the issues, assign tasks, and get out - people accuse me of being "curt". Gee - just 'cause I dont have all day to waste in these company sponsored chat fests.

hhhmmm I guess I am lucky. the only time my company sent me to training, it was a week long seminar in Boston. It was from 9 to 5 and one other coworker came with me, so needless to say we hopped right on the T and went to all the pubs at night and got good and loaded. My bosses gave us each $200 spending money, and all the food AND drinks we had they covered. Now its shit like that I love.

When I worked at Hot Topic we went to Chucky Cheese for a managers meeting once.

So I have basically been lucky in the area...

Here's what I love. There is a big meeting October 17th. There is a pre-meeting for the big meeting on October 8th. And I shit you not, I have to meet up with my boss and some other clowns to discuss strategy for the pre-meeting next week.

Fuzzy I hear ya...my company still uses Windows 98...and SOMETIMES I see a Windows 95 pop up. How do they expect me to work efficiently with this old shit?
And they complain when our systems break down and freeze up, wondering what WE did to make it happen. I said what I did was not go to a job where the programs at LEAST appear to be updated.
I almost lost my job for that one.

yeah i used to manage a movie theater, which doesnt sound all that hard at a glance, but it was the busiest theater in the country, it was a "chain" theater, which meant coporate. i had loads of shit to do and we had the stupidest meetings once a week, and nothing ended up ever getting done in them anyway. so when the meetings were over i always had to go out and clean up whever mess the employees got caught up in (long ass lines, jammed machines, etc.), and then go back the the paperwork. this is why i hate and will never work in coporate america again!
