Block annoying pop up ads

Does anyone know of a good program to block those annoying pop up windows? Whenever I launch IE I can't keep up as my task bar keeps filling with more and more ads.

I've noticed a ton more pop up ads than usual over the past 6 months or so. You're right, it is annoying.

I think there is a program out there you can buy...but other than that, I have no useful advice. Good luck!
