Did you ever hear a song that made little sense? Here's one:

A Whiter Shade of Pale
Procol Harem

(Keith Reid/Gary Brooker)

We skipped the light Fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kind of seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later
As the Miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

------ organ solo ------

She said there is no reason
And the truth is plain to see
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might just as well've been closed

And so it was that later
As the Miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, absolutely nothing from that album makes any sense. dont get me wrong though, i love Floyd, its just that songs that make a little sense are acceptable. but if i hear something that just makes me scratch my head, i usually stay away from, unless the melody/hook/riff is irresistible. TooL has got good songs with some lyrics that make you think to yourself "why not just spit out what you're trying to say, instead of trying to show me in code?" why even bother sometimes? the beatles have to be the all-time champs at these cryptic lyrics though. for example, their classic 6 word song "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" anyone really know why she's so heavy? did someone in the band dig fatchicks back then? who knows...

Lennon wrote "She's So Heavy" about Yko - both cause she had opened his mind artistically and philosophically (as he saw it), and cause their rlationship was so intense.

Anything by Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd. The songs either made no sense or were so simple they sound like 3rd grade poetry.

I've Seen All Good People
by YES I get an anuerism listening to this

I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
so satisfied I'm on my way.
I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
so satisfied I'm on my way.

Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn't got time to make you a wife.

'Cause it's time, it's time in time with your time and its news is captured
For the queen to use.
Move me on to any black square,
Use me any time you want,
Just remember that the goal
Is for us all to capture all we want
(Move me on to any black square)
Yea, yea, yea.

Don't surround yourself with yourself,
Move on back two squares,
Send an Instant Karma to me,
Initial it with loving care
Don't surround
Yourself.

'Cause it's time, it's time in time with your time and its news is captured
For the queen to use.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit
Didda.
Don't surround yourself with yourself,
Move on back two squares,

Yourself with yourself.
Don't surround yourself.

Send an Instant
Karma to me. Don't surround yourself.

NEVER! I love Zepplin's music, but Robert Plant can fall off a bridge and die.

And Floyd just let me down.

I did things in reverse...I listened to mounds of contemporary music and a lot of underground and alternative stuff first...didn't hear either of the above bands outside of little snippets until I was about 18, 19...and all I could think was, "this is it?" I repsect what may have been brought forth from these bands, but it just leaves me cold...

Early REM songs really confused me (though I loved them musically). Especially "South Central Rain".

South Central Rain
Did you never call? I waited for your call
These rivers of suggestion are driving me away
The trees will bend, the cities wash away
The city on the river there is a girl without a dream

I'm sorry

Eastern to Mountain, third party call, the lines are down
The wise man built his words upon the rocks
But I'm not bound to follow suit
The trees will bend, the conversation's dimmed
Go build yourself another home, this choice isn't mine

Did you never call? I waited for your call
These rivers of suggestion are driving me away
The ocean sang, the conversation's dimmed
Go build yourself another dream, this choice isn't mine

None of the Flaming Lips' songs really make any sense, but man do they rock. I'm desperate to see them and Beck at the Beacon.

That song was banned from the airwaves after 9/11 for being "lyrically questionable". That says it all.

Check out 7 Seconds great cover of this tune. A terrific hardcore interpretation.
