This is a hard question...I have been thinking about it alot lately. It is very rare that you find someone of the opposite sex that is a true friend. I think 95% of the time, one of the 2 is going to be attracted to the other. Some of my friendships have been ruined or made awkward because feelings were revealed. Only do that if there are definite signs the other is interested...

Now if it is someone you've hooked up with already and can then be friends, that ususally works b/c there is no mystery about the other person and you can really focus on the frienship. Or just the friends you've known for along time can work out.

But in general, I think it is very difficult for it to be a 'true' friendship and not just one of the 2 waiting for the right time to make their move.

i would like to believe it is possible...but again we are only human...regular attraction,sexual attraction, a spark , what ever you wanna call it may be there...its funny how most relationships start off as being JUST FRIENDS..personally i do not have as many guy friends as i did in HS..but the guy friends i do have are, to be honest, very handsome- although i will never say it out loud..hehe...my boyfriend and i were/are/will forever be friends...from what i have witnessed i think the best relationships/ healthy ones that LAST are from couples that were friends before hand...my last bit of wisdom is dont consider you GAL friends as "potental" anything- let things happen-even though thats a bitch sometimes AND just be honest and welcome their honesty as well regarding if there is any attraction....but again thats only what i think

Not to be offensive to the guys, but I have tried to be just friends with some guys, but usually what happens is that some pretty uncomfortable things happen and I usually have to end the relationship.

On the other side is, is that it is pretty hurtful to really like a guy as a friend and to have conversations with, and then to have him come on to me, and then for me to have to tell him I am not interested in that way, and then find he no longer wants ANYTHING to do with me. It's almost like "we are going to be sexually involved or nothing at all". I think many girls are hurt by this type of stuff.

Most of my most intimate friends are female. And sex doesn't enter into the picture at all. It's just not part of the equation. Opposite sex friendships can be as deep and meaningful and expressive than same sex friendship (if not more so). I find myself gravitating to women as friends because I'm expressive and emotional by nature, and many guys are uncomfortable with that.

Does the thought of sex ever cross my mind? Of course, but it's not part of the relationship. It can't be. For one, I'm married and love my wife. But even before I got married my single female friends were just that - friends.
