I HATE THIS mentality!

"Oh you know, baseball isn't what it used to be. Back in my time, it was a game...."

"Oh you know, these kids today don't know music. Back when I was like 22, bands played music that MEANT something...."

"Kids today don't care about things, when I was a kid..."

"Today's television isn't as good as when I was a young man. Back then we had..."

"These movie stars these days aren't like the ones back when I went to the movie houses....."

SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!

I'm not even going to argue with ANY points that older people have. They may be right on A LOT of points, especially about today's young people not caring about anything and entertainment in the DUMPER.

But what is to be gained by ratteling on about times that aren't coming back?

If people put all that energy into making what actually exists today BETTER, maybe things would change.

And I don't just mean OLD people. I mean some middle aged people I've talked to also! It agitates me.

Gone with the Wind, the Brooklyn Dodgers and Led Zepplin aren't comin' back, buddy. Try living for today.

PS As a 41 year old geezer, I agree with your point. Its just that torturing younger people with these stories is one of the few enjoyments we have left.

You're only young once but you can be immature forever!

I hate that, my grandfather is always telling me how good people were back then, when the ball was normal. Now all he does is claim the ball is juiced up, which might be true, but isn't it possible that Bonds and all these other home run hitters can just be that good?

When I was in high school, if the cops caught you driving around drinking beers, they'd ask you for one and tell you to behave and not break any windows or anything.

No one had ever heard of AIDS or HIV.

Working a part time job, you could afford a decent car, insurance, and all the partying you could handle on the weekends.

You tell me if it was better.

they forget that it's the exact same thing the "grown-ups" said when they were young...
you have to give young people the respect that you would want yourself until they do something to lose it...
in some cases a person is somewhat bitter for not being as young anymore...

Because it WAS! You could have a decent one-night stand without worrying about Death! People actually wore pants that covered their ass-cracks, unless they were plumbers or handy-men. Cars came with v-eight engines and gas was 39 cants a gallon. There was no such thing as rap "music". Drinks didn't cost $6 apiece. There was no such thing as an SUV. You actually had to know how to read and write to graduate. Everyone in my neighborhood wasn't from a Third World country. News was actually about news, not which celebrities were doing what. People wouldn't get mugged for their sneakers. You didn't have to spend a million dollars to go to a baseball game or a concert. I could go on, but why bother - I know you're not listening.

Go tell someone who cares...

Some people who have done that too much get warned from the staff and banned. I'm not saying you will, but if all you do all night is top old topics, you may get in trouble.

Plus, you have like 60 posts, so there's a chance you're some joke member who signed up to cause trouble. It's happened before.

Really, I'm not trying to be a smart-ass - some of these were really interesting to me - if I'm doing something uncool, I'll stop - I enjoy this web site & don't want to get kicked off - I didn't know what I'm doing is bad - Sorry, really! here's a lil song that might answer your question *picks up guitar*

We got up before sunup to get the work done up
We'd work in the fields till the sun had gone down
We've stood and we've cried as we helplessly watched
A hailstorm a beatin' our crops to the ground

And I've gone to bed hungry many nights as a lad
In the good old days when times were bad
I've seen daddy's hands break open and bleed
And I've seen him work till he's stiff as a board

I've seen mama lay and suffer in sickness
In need of a doctor we couldn't afford
Anything at all was more than we had
In the good old days when times were bad

No amount of money could buy from me
The mem'ries that I have of them
No amount of money could pay me
To go back and live through it again

We've got up before we found ice on the floor
Where the wind would blew snow
Through the cracks in the wall
And I've walked many miles to an old country school
With my lunch in a bag of my overalls
Anything at all was more than we had
In the good old days when times were bad

No amount of money could buy from me
The mem'ries that I have of them
No amount of money could pay me
To go back and live through it again

For the same reason this very thread exists. The Old School Thread.

People reminiscing and thinking back to easier times for THEM.... maybe times when they weren't paying a ridiculous commuter tax or overpriced rent. Times when it was ok to smoke a ciggy in a bar while you throw back a drink.....or when you didn't have to worry about being sued for this or that at every turn.

Ahh...kids today....

actually, i say that about "the scene".

the hardcore, oi, punk scene was better back when i was young then it is now. the kids today suck. but granted, the older people probably thought it was good when they were younger and thought we were a bunch of hoodlums.

but seriously... the hardcore and the skin scene SUCKS today. it seriously needs to become a threat again... and thats why i bring you
