Radio: Talk-show host Ferrall fired by WNEW-FM
Thursday, September 05, 2002
BY COLIN STEPHENSON
Star-Ledger Staff
Scott Ferrall, the gravel-voiced, acid-tongued sports talk show host who had been working the morning show at WNEW-FM since December, was fired from the station two weeks ago apparently caught up in the housecleaning that followed the station's dismissal of shock jocks Opie and Anthony.
Opie and Anthony, the station's top-rated afternoon drive time duo, were fired Aug. 19 after being involved in an incident where an out-of-town couple were caught having sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral at the urging of the talk show hosts. Opie and Anthony were fired, and station general manager Ken Stevens and program director Jeremy Coleman were placed on indefinite suspension. They were replaced, on an interim basis, by Gary Blum and Andy Schuon. They Ferrall, who was friends with Opie and Anthony.

Dana McClintock, a spokesman for Infinity, confirmed Ferrall and the station had "parted ways," but confirmed little else. Ferrall, who was the subject of a feature story in The Star-Ledger on Aug. 13, was reached this week but declined any comment on his dismissal. One former WNEW staffer said because Ferrall -- whose ratings had recently begun to climb -- was friendly with Opie and Anthony, his firing was the result of "guilt by association." Atlanta DJ Chris Dimino has been filling in for Ferrall the last two weeks, but is scheduled to return to Atlanta next week
