What were those bands that had a big hit, and an awesome album, but now they are forgotten?

Id pick the Butthole Surfers.

The Black Sheep. When Flavor of the Month came out it was great, their follow up album on the other hand left much to be desired.

No, they are a great band and I love em. They were never as mainstream as Nirvana and other grunge bands. And they are still mentioned every now and then. They created grunge.

Soul Asylum?

Funny thing is, I liked Soul Asylum before they got big (circa Hang Time and Say What You Will Clarence...). I always thought Gravediggers Union blew chunks. But that's just my opinion...

Grave Dancers Union actually.

It did suck. They definitely hit the wall with that album.
I always thought "And the horse they rode in on" was underappreciated though.

See! It sucked so bad that I couldn't even remember the proper title!

Yeah, ...And the Horse they Rode in On was pretty good. No offense to the band, but I think they should just pack it in. They haven't put out anything good in years.
