New Wrestler's Names

I wonder why all the new guys don't have wrestling names. Top guys in the Business have unique names, Udertaker, HHH, The Rock. Now all the new guys just have normal names. John Cena, Shelton Benjamin, Randy Orton. I hope WWE doesn't do away with great wrestling names.

What about guys like Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Eddie Guerrero, etc.? I think there are actually more top guys today with normal names than guys with gimmick names.

Steve Austin is a gimmick name, his real name is Steve Williams.

I know his real name is Steve Williams, what I'm saying is that "Steve Austin" could very easily have been somebody's real name. Hell, half the guys with "real names" in the WWE don't use thier real names as it is. My point is that The days of guys with name like Repo Man, Skinner, and Earthquake are gone, and now we see more and more lifelike characters.

Its true that half the wrestler that use real names aren't there real names. But look Jericho used to be called Y2J a lot more, thers Kane, it was STONE COLD Steve Austin. Many sucessful people have gimmick names.

I'll agree with you there, and I'll say this. If they wan't the guys you mentioned, Cena, Orton, Benjamin, to get over, they are gonna have to find some type of gimmick for them, because frankly, they bore the hell out of me.

I am not going to argue which is more successful
gimmick names or real names but we do need some
gimmick names. I understand that Randy Orton
should not have a nick name since he is a second
generation wrastlers... But come on some creativity
PLEASE!!!!!!

WWE had the coolest name ever in Levathon, then they went with Bastista. That sucks.

I think both are effective ways to be put over. Sometimes its athletcism that will get you over or just plain charisma. No one really knows what the fans want.

I would like to see wrestlers keep their respective gimmicks from other promotions when they make it to the big time, the WWE because that would make them standout. Leviathan (Batista) and The Prototype (John Cena) are very marketable names. I wonder why they do not utilize them to their advantage. Is there some sort of trademarks on those names?

Shelton Benjamin, Shannon Moore and other newer characters need something to differenciate them from just plain jobbers like those on the ole WWF Superstar on Saturdays.

And some guys like Test... will never get over! NEVER!

But even the wrestlers with regular names have nicknames. Chris Benoit - The Rabid Wolverine. Chris Jericho - Y2J , (by the way why doesn't he ever say the Ilatola of RocknRolla-sp). Eddie Guerraro - Latino Heat. Plus the new wrestlers have the exact same style and practicly wear the exact same thing. Those gay biker shorts like Billy Gunn.(Orton , Cena , Maven ,)
