I mean, really...come on...Our Lady Peace?!? These guys were horrendous the first time around a few years back with "Superman's Dead"...now they're back with a "hit"? Was the first time so traumatic that people just supressed the memory? Christ, the singer sounds like Alanis and Shakira getting skinned by a screaming Billy Coragan, their lyrics sound like middle school poetry, and one of them actually wears a giant metal belt buckle in their new video. Why has nobody punched these talentless Canucks in their stomachs and thrown them in a ditch yet?

Why can Waxl Rose go out with a band of nobodys?
Why can laughably bad hair bands still tour?
Bands today are a dime a dozen so if you make ANY connection with an audience and play it right, you can play bad music and never work a real job forever!
What, you didn't go see the Roth/Hagar "Integrity" tour?

Because people are sheep, and will listen to whatever recycled drivel you stick in their faces.
I GUARENTEE, if you put a man farting on 92.3 KROCK here in NYC, sales would go through the roof. If you say something is genius enough, the masses will buy it.

Every terrible band that comes out are now "two hit wonders". They come out with a song and a video the second their cd is released. Then two weeks later they take another song and make a video for it. THEN THEYRE DONE!
ex: Alien Ant Farm - yes I know they have two cd's and many people like their first cd. But that's not what made them put them on MTV all the time. It was 1. Smooth Criminal and 2. Movies
Andrew W.K. - not a bad band but still only two songs 1. Party Hard and 2. She Is Buetiful
Gorillaz - 1. Clint Eastwood
2. Like 2150 or something.
theres more but you get the point.

Andrew WK's music may be moronic, but he's hands-down the most awesome person in music today.

Andrew W.K. - not a bad band but still only two songs (1.) Party Hard and (2.) She Is Buetiful
...and the funny thing about that is...they're both the SAME FUCKING SONG! They have the same cadence, almost the same riff & chord progression (at least through as much as I listen to before changing the station).
...silent, but violent.

How is it that great bands like Faith no More, The Black Crowes, and Fear Factory (even though their last CD sucked) break up, but these new shittin dime a dozen bands stick around?

Umm no. Have a little more faith in humanity. While I agree that it is total bullshit that the two biggest bands of the last five years, Pearl Jam Ripoff #1 Creed and even fucking crappier Limp Bizkit suck cockinballz, I really think some better, newer bands are coming to the forefront. God i hope so.

How do really awful bands get a second chance?
Because of stupid teenagers who say "well thier first album wasnt great, but theyll do better the second time around"
We need to say, no the first sucked, YOU HAVE TO prove to me you will be a good band now more than ever if you want my money.

The thing that people underestimate with bands and popular music is the importance of good songwriting. If a band can write or find consistenly good songs, they'll have success. Talent, drive, image, luck - these all help, but you've got to get people to remember your stuff. For all the abuse Creed gets, and most of it is warrated frankly, they have catchy songs. I'd even call their front man, as big as an ego maniac as he appears to be, a good songwriter. Although the instrumentation is always the same, the songs have good hooks. I bet all of you can sing three or four of their hits right now.

For all the abuse Creed gets, and most of it is warrated frankly, they have catchy songs.
Well, they have the added benefit of being played dozens of times a day on various media formats. Plus, they fall prey to the Counting Crows-syndrome of writing songs that are TOO catchy. You know the ones that you hear for the first time, but they sound so much like the bands' other work, and even other popular songs at the moment by other artists, that you think you've heard it 50 timea already...but it's really only the first?!?
A perfect pop song is perhaps the hardest thing to pull off.
I'll take J.E.W.'s "The Sweetness" right now. Average band...soaring, stunning little gem of a power-pop song.

I"m thinking that the reason this happens is because of an overriding live show or general charisma that convince folks that the first shot at packaging could be better. No Doubt, Jewel, BuckCherry, and I'm sure a million other bands were all recipients of a too much too soon push. Some had to wait months, some had to wait years(No Doubt) to get another push, but if there's SOMETHING there, they won't be abandoned. I"m guessing that's what went on with OLP, who did, by the way, have a pretty good underground following. I'm sure I'm forgetting a littany of bands that had to be slightly repackaged to get over to their full potential.
