WW1 To Offer Don & Mike In Afternoons

R&R has learned that the WJFK-FM/Washington-based middayers, who are syndicated by Westwood One, will return to the 3-7pm slot on 'JFK-FM as well as on Infinity's WYSP/Philadelphia this Tuesday, with WW1 offering The Don & Mike Show in place of the recently cancelled Opie & Anthony Show. Ironically, the two duos have been feuding ever since Don & Mike were ousted from afternoons and moved to middays to accommodate the national rollout of Opie & Anthony, who were fired last week by WNEW/New York for their role in the now-infamous sex-at-St. Patrick's Cathedral stunt. WJFK says "a major announcement on a permanent midday replacement" will happen "in the near future" - the station will air reruns of 'JFK evening hosts The Sports Junkies in middays until further notice - and R&R has confirmed that WYSP's Spike will host a music-intensive midday shift. "Don and Mike are an advertising staple in Washington media," acting WJFK-FM VP/GM Alan Leinwand says, "and we are thrilled to have them back in the highly lucrative afternoon-drive slot."

I'm a huge R&F fan, but it bugs me that D&M were never given a chance to succeed in New York. It seems that WNEW listeners WANTED to dislike them from day one, and never gave them a chance to succeed.

I heard part of a D&M "best of," they're only on for 8 hours a day here in DC :-( , and someone said something about Al Dukes.

Mike said, "who's that?"

Rob said, "I think that's the producer for R&F."

Don and Mike fans always use the excuse, that O and A brainwashed their fans to hate D & M, as the reason D & M failed in NY. When D and M came to NY they had a good relationship with O and A for their first year or so and I still thought they sucked.

Don and Mike have had a shakey relationship with O&A at best. When the deal started going down that D&M wanted to go live in NYC, they wanted the drive time. No way O&A were giving up their slot. I'm from DC, and I liked all 3 shows. R&F are the best to me, though, they're consistantly funny. Aside from that, I don't think R&F will go middays here. Maybe it's because I'm pessimistic, but I don't think WJFK cares enough about the show, which is a shame. As for D&M and R&F, during the debacle where the shows were suspended, D&M stated that they had no problems with R&F and liked their show. Take that as you wish, there's no real way of knowing.

I used to listen to Don and Mike..hell ill admit I even used to be a fan...but then O and A came to DC pushed the bar so high that Don and Mike werent funny anymore..and they still arent funny...thats why it took them what...10..15 years to get into new york

I used to love D&M for years down here in DC, but then, about 5 years ago, everything changed. D&M had gotten a new deal, big cash, and Don was pulled over for smoking pot. Now instead of the past, where he aired stuff like this on the air, let the callers call in and bust his balls and take it like a champ, he shut up and refused to talk about it. Then the show just got lazier and lazier...same bits, Mike's impressions started sounding all the same, no more guests, hardly anything out of the studio...no attempts to start a website or anything...then O&A came along, injected some life into the radio, and D&M just couldn't compare...they had a good decade doing great radio, but they've just gotten too rich and lazy...if they had gotten NY 10 years ago or so, they would have taken it by storm...
