I went to school in Albany where the local WB would play reruns of Hawaii 5-0 at 2 am. Man there is nothing in the world better when you're ripped. McGarrett ruled; he sat on his ass while everyone else did the work then he steps in and takes credit for solving the crime after everything is completely obvious. The opening credits were great: "Kam Fung as Kono" why bother?

One of my all-time favorite shows! It's also of the longest running shows in TV history (1968-80).
We used to do the same thing in college -- get loaded and watch 5-0 in the wee hours. Any of the early episodes that featured hippies and drug use were particular favorites of mine: seeing the square McGarrett say things like "groovy" and "dig this" and get called a "pig" or "fascist".

Kam Fong was Chin Ho. Zulu was Kono.

I guess its just you and me AJ. Do you remember the episode where in the very beginning Danno is holding someone over a cliff, and accidentally lets go? Then McGarrett tells him he didn't try hard enough? Hilarious. Any other fans respond...........

Is that the one with Ed Flanders as the Timothy Leary type acid guru?
I like the "Big Chicken" and "Wo Fat" epsiodes.

Yeah it is! That may have been the best one ever. And Heckler, the best part of the theme song is where they show McGarrett turning around.

Granted, it's the credits for the pilot. Who knows if this is the final product. I REALLY liked the gimmick of using satellite imagery to update the classic fast-zoom shot of McGarrett on top of the hotel.
I really miss Zulu as Kono, though.

Hey, it's got Grace Park in it, who was always smokin' hot as Boomer/Athena/Number Eight, so that's a big plus for me.
I mean, the scene on BSG where Boomer finds a Cylon resurrection ship with literally hundreds of bare-ass naked Number Eights was quite, well, interesting. In many ways.

I loved me some Wo Fat.
One of the ingenius ways McGarrett solved a crime comes to mind.
Some bad guy was getting away with murder and was being kinda smart-alecky about it until McGarrett brought him in for a little chat. The killer was all smirk until McGarrett pointed out that while the revolver used had been wiped of prints, there was a little something the killer had not considerd. McGarrett goes on to say how frustrated he was in the investigation and not being able to tie the killer to the crime and how wiping those prints had been a stumbling block.
But THEN McGarrett produces the murder weapon and flips open the cylinder.
"You see, finally I remembered something, and that is the way most people load a gun. Most people will take their bullets and load it like so."
The perp began to sneer a bit less and gets mighty nervous, like he'd been tricked or something as McGarrett pushes a round in with his thumb and points out they had the cartridges from the murder,
".. and guess whose thumbprints we found on the base of the spent cartridges?"
"Book him, Danno!"
The murderer begins to sniffle gets cuffed rudely and hauled out in shock followed by the credits rolling.....
But don't forget McGarrett would be lost without the great Che Fong in the lab.

Oh yeah, he frequently had to rely on chaps like Mr. Fong.
I used to like it when McGarrett would finally get the goods on Wo fat but then have some State Department weenies show up and force McGarrett to turn Wo Fat loose because of something going on diplomatically..... McGarrett would get pissed!
Wo Fat would just grin, slightly........

According to several sources, I was right - the producers re-did the opening theme song so it's true to the original. Premieres Monday at 10 - I'll be watching!

Yeah, I think I heard a while back that the reaction to the "rock & roll" version of the theme they used in the original teasers for this show was so negative they decided to go back to a version that sounds much more like the original.

Anyone see it last night? A lot of guest stars. Kelly Hu (X-Men 2), Edgar from 24, Adam Beach (Flags Of Our Fathers)... but the biggest one was Robert Loggia, but it was kinda depressing. He looked like he aged from his 50's to 127 in recent times.

So I finally caught up on Hawaii 5-0. This show still is completely over the top, there are plot holes you can drive a mack truck through, and there's not that many who-dun-it things to it.
For example:
I knew within five minutes of the credits that Kevin Sorbo and Nick Lachey were responsible for the crimes.
More plot holes:
You are wearing a vest. You gear up to find a government witness with two armed assassins. YOU DON'T GIVE THE WITNESS YOUR VEST!?
Tri-athlete diamond thieves: They knew that the diamond thieves knew all the key codes for at least several hours before the heist. Why not tell all the companies on the armored truck route to CHANGE THE KEY CODES?
My biggest complaint is the following:
It was established in the pilot episode that Danny had only been in Hawaii for less than a year. Yet, in the Internal Affairs episode, Danny is acting like his partner that is being investigated that they go WAY back - when that wasn't the case at all. In fact, given the time frame that we're dealing with, all the fuckups that Danny's partner was being investigated on should have been going on WHILE HE WAS PARTNERING WITH DANNY.
The thing that is saving this show is the Danny/Steve friendship and how badass Chin and Kono are.

Are they loosely redoing the episodes from the original show?
Maybe that's where the lack of continuity stems from..Plus, you need to be able to temporally suspend your disbelief if you want to participate in almost any 1 hour drama these days, or in the past for that matter..But in this case, Kono's enough to keep me DVRing it, at least till she gets put into an internment camp..I also think Scott Cann's a really good actor..The whole show is goofy but it has the feel of a 70's/80's show and that appeals to my left brains nostalgic clump..

This show really has the weirdest casting. Jojo Levesque, I can understand, she wasn't that offensive. But Alex Mack? really?
Although I will say this: Dascascos as Wo Fat is a stroke of genius. Now they just need someone for Big Chicken.

I haven't watched in a while, but the last one I saw had me laughing so hard that I think I can't take it serious anymore. McGarret was hunting two assassins in the jungle (who were wearing police uniforms) and he went all Schwarzenegger vs. Predator and actually built booby traps, even taking a call from his cell phone in one hand while hoisting a giant log up into a tree with the other arm. Oh, he also happened to have camouflage paint on his face all of the sudden. Then Dano picked him up in a jeep and he was about 25 yards from the main road. It was ridiculous.

It was Chin Ho - Danny was dealing with a corrupt politician.
That said - that scene with him hoisting the log was ridiculous, but the reason he went all commando is because said dudes killed 2 cops and a FBI agent, and he needed to get info from them.
I thought the most ridiculous thing of that entire episode is that both Chin Ho and McGarrett were wearing vests and NEITHER of them offered them to the witness.
