View Full Version : Ban Sam Adams?

Alice S. Fuzzybutt

Tonight I went out with a co-worker for a drink. I usually order a Sam Adams, but tonight I ordered a Harp instead.

Jim Koch had a shitload of fun until the shit hit the fan. Then the "company" sends a press release saying their involvement was in "bad judgment," or whatever the legalese said.

I, personally, am banning Sam Adams. Anyone with me?

Actually Fuzzybutt, I just saw on FOX news today that that same Catholic Organization that tried to get WNEW's liscence revoked is also boycotting Sam Adams becasue their public apology didn't go far enough!

They're not going to be happy until Jim publicly says he will never again sponsor a morally corupt show like O&A again.

So I guess he might be FUCKED both ways. Christans who listen to these Horse Fuckers will boycot, and O&A fans who think he buckled under to the Catholic fags will boycott.

Poor Jim. Maybe we SHOULD support Sam Adams, I don't know. I like MGD a lot.

you really can't blame the business for trying to cover itself.. remember they are a multimillion dollar company.. bad press is not good for a beer company.. especailly and independent beer company.. most likely the lawyers were like wnew aren't backing O&A so we need to cover ourselves.. blame the press... oh yeah i think the beer taste like shit anyway.. go figure..

That press relaese read like a just in case, cover your ass move. Apparently the Catholic League didn't buy it. I won't hold it against Sam Addams. Although, Harp is my favorite, so good for you Fuzzy.

Give the guy a break, hes running a business.... he has a family and people who work for him. he has more responcibilty to people who DEPEND on him for livelyhood than he does to a couple of DJ freinds.... when you have have hundreds if not thousands of people depending on the sale of your product for a job, then you can talk about this. i'm not saying you have to buy his beer, but dont slam the guy.... got it?

I have to Agree with Hawiian

I own a buisiness, and have had to cravenly avoid taking stands on things in order to protect it, because its not just me that will be affected but my family, my employees and my employee's families. I mean if the issue was geoncide then Jim should stick to his guns. But hell this was just a dumb
publicity stunt gone wrong. I think the real enemy here is the Church and their attack dogs. Find out what businesses contribute to your local Church carnival etc, and Boycott Them.

I never was a big fan of Sam Adams beer in the first place, I'm more of a Bass Ale man myself. So to boycott it, is like to say, I'll just keep not drinking it, as I always have. I'm not saying it's a bad beer, but if I had my choice over Sam Adams or a Bass Ale, I'm not taking the Sam. Of course, if there's a Schaefer around..there's no controversy.

What bugs me about the whole thing, is that... ok there was the backpeddling..and that's to be expected... he's a businessman trying to save face. Cheap and low...but I understand it.

Yet! Sam Adams continues to advertise on WNEW.

If Jim Koch was SO regretful of his involvement and wanted to distance himself from O&A so much, he should have pulled his ads from the station as a whole.

He was present for the previous two "Sex for Sam" events, and had no regrets then. Even when a couple did it right in front of him.
But now... since patrons have threatened no longer carrying Sam Adams, it hits him in the wallet. And now it's time for him to say "Hey, I don't even KNOW these guys that well!"

I wish you good luck Mr. Koch, you'll continue to sell beer and be successful I'm sure. But I, for one, will not be a buyer.

Please... you all are WAY too sensitive.

What would you like him to do?

If anyone can give a decent response to that question, I will put down my Sam Adam's

Keep in mind he has more responsiblities than just "sticking up for O&A"

and you know... maybe he actually DIDN'T agree with what they did!! Maybe he did think they crossed the line. Just becuase he attended previous Sex For Sam's doesn't mean he agreed people should do it in St. Patrick's.

Andf If he was truly all about supporting this event in the first place... why was he the "UNOFFICIAL" Sponsor???

Becuase while he thought the event in itself was fun, he KNEW he could not fully identify his Company with the event - it is fucking Corporate Responsibility.

So NO he is not back peddaling. I think he was pretty fucking cool to let the boys continue the even under the "Sam" name. I think it is pretty cool he supported them the best he could.

And now that shit hit the fan, he has a responsibility to his Company first. And I for one wouldn't put a radio show over a multi-million dollar company.

I don't think we should blame Koch here. He has a responcibility to everyone that works for him. more than his ass is on the line, thousands of workers depend on him. How can he not in good conscience try to protect them?

In the previous two contests, everything was hunky-dory, so no problems with Sam Adams, but when O&A get canned, we should boycott? Sorry, Fuzzy. Even though I don't drink it (except the stray one handed to me by a friend), I don't see the logic here. I think supporting Jim in the onslaught of bad press he's going to get makes more sense.

Maybe he did make a poor judgement in supporting this contest, but I have a bigger problem with people like the ones who ran @home and declared bankruptcy while still taking their multi-million dollar bonuses.

Oh, and Moe- stick with the MGD.

Sorry, I'm in agreement with the folks who don't agree with boycotting Sam Adams.
Boycotts tend to put people out of work and I don't know if any of you are unemployed right now - but it is a shitty time to be looking for a job. I wouldnt wish that upon anyone, especially some guy pushing a broom for a company whose owner excercised "bad judgement".

What did everyone expect Koch to do? Did anyone expect him to release a statement saying that he was in total agreement with what went on? The guy has to do damage control, but notice his ads still run on the station. The whole thing is a joke. Try Magic Hat #9, good stuff

I understand his need to disassociate himself from it, but the way it was stated was done poorly.

I'm quoting from membory, but I may be a little off. But I beleive it said he didn't condone any acts nor was he aware of any acts or contest. If he was so ignorant about what was going on, why did he come back a third time?

I am in agreement with JerseyRich, Octoberfest just came out. And lets face it, Jim Koch had no choice. If O and A were still on the air, yet had a heavy fine and suspension, Koch would probably support them...yet he is now on the gang plank of the butt pirates from the Catholic League staring down at some realllllyyyyyy hungry sharks. Well you guys must not have of heard him explain how he got the name for his beer: Sam Adams. He wanted to call it his last name, but was afraid of mispronounciations and the fact that a mispronounciation (cock, instead of cook), would not appeal to people drinking from something that was shaped like a phallic symbol...he told that story on O and A, I think ironically at sex for sam 2...

Sam Adams is based in Boston, one of the most Catholic cities in the country.
This is business. He did what he had to do. I'm sure O&A realize that, and I'm sure he'll still be on good terms with them.
