Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson: Why do I care what they think?

Yet again, I saw Jerry Falwell interviewed on a news talk show...will someone please explain to me why he (or Pat Robertson) still gets any respect whatsoever after his comments about September 11th last year?

In case anyone doesn't remember, they said the following:

Falwell said, "The ACLU has got to take a lot of blame for this. And I know I'll hear from them for this, but throwing God...successfully with the help of the federal court system...throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen."

Robertson said, "I totally concur, and the problem is we've adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government, and so we're responsible as a free society for what the top people do, and the top people, of course, is the court system."

Sure they both apologized afterwards. But some statements(and actions) are so severe and off base that they just can't be apologized for.

Why do either of these two guys get any respect, and why are they allowed to spew their views on cable news shows constantly?

These men are going to whatever Hell there may be after life. They are the TRUE, ULTIMATE evil in the world, and spread HATE in the name of thier flase gods.

And they apologized? Wow. That's pretty big of them. So if I call a guy a nigger to his face, and apologize later on, that's OK? I seriously doubt it.

I disagree with the ACLU on almost EVEYTHING they do too, but I will NOT blame them, or other non-christians for this. I blame Osama and Al-Queda, and all other extrimists involved.

I hope that Falwell and Robetson suffer for their sins.......soon........

What's sick to me is just the concept that they had hte nerve to try and take it back. Falwell apologized publically and Robertson later said that that it was a misunderstanding or something, but c'mon. Apologies mean nothing when you say something that's so digusting and horrid...they make me sick.

I just don't get why Robertson can still have his religion shows (CBN or whatever the hell it's called) and how Falwell is on another talk show every other minute. Did everyone just forget what they said and what they think?

Maybe, "I disagree with ACLU on almost everything...that's reported on them in the media!", because that's true for about everyone. Those boring, actual GOOD causes that they fight for, those aren't flashy and wacky enough to ever get attention...and thusly people ignore that they ever happen...

The important thing to remember is that most real Christians.....those of us who are reasonable human beings.....don't care what those two idiots think anyway.

I was just as outraged as you when they made those comments last September.

I LOATHE the ACLU, but I would never blame them for 9-11.

The same reason they show Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson and Al "White Interlopers" Sharpton: they get people agitated, which is great for ratings.
If the media ignored them they would go away. That will never happen. Hate sells. Sad but true.

On very rare occasions, the ACLU does good things. But they spend most of their time standing up for cop-killers and keeping the Family Circus out of public schools.
