Does anyone have this? or even know anyone who does? It seems like it has already become the "beta" of the radio biz.

My old boss bought it for both his car and his own home use at the beginning of the year I think, and he loves it. He thinks it's the greatest thing, and uses it all the time because he drives a lot.
I haven't followed the stock closely, but last I checked it was doing fine. And it wasn't headed towards bankruptcy...last I heard was that it's only competitor, Sirius Satellite Radio was warning of possible bankruptcy, which could mean both good and bad for XM radio when you think about it.
But I do see it advertised all over the place in electronic stores and whatnot. I've been shopping for a cd player for my car and am constantly inundated with questions of whether I want XM...so who knows that that means.
They don't have that many customers...only about 200,000 I think. I would get it now but I think installation and the radio are at least 2 or 3 hundred and there is a monthly fee, probably around 10 or 15 bucks.

yeah, fuck paying for something that is free.....like television
I've been wondering if XM would become the new home for O&A. Probably only when they can prove they have like 2-10M subscribers.

What are they gonna do now?

I actually have XM in my car, I used to work at a car stereo shop and XM was giving out free antennas and recievers so i figured why not. It's OK at some things and AWFUL at others, for instance, the "Extreme" talk station is terrible, but it has the Monsters of the Midday so it's decent, there's a repetative Stand-up comedy station that's only redeeming value is that it plays Regan and Dice occasionally. There's a metal station but no punk station and about 5 million jazz stations, it's good in that you can hear anything you want anytime you want with fantastic sound but it's probably better for someone like me who's on the fringes of CT where there's very little selection of FM stations.
XM made a big deal about being uncensored and commercial free when it came out, which it mostly is, but the Monsters, for example just use the syndication feed so its a dumped show, and on tape delay to boot. They also keep all the breaks for the talk shows.
It'll cost you between 200 and 800 dollars startup depending on what system you go with, XM's stock has been hit and miss, but profits are on the rise now that the launch expensises are taken care of. Sirius is the one going bankrupt. XM had 300,000 members about 3 months ago when I last talked to their rep and I can only assume that's grown.
It's easily worth 10 bucks a month to me but i can't see paying anything over that, and there are times I think it's not even worth that, but now that Lickass is covering 6-10 it gives me something to listen to while i'm driving.
