Format Change Confirmed

Yeah, it's 3:30 in the morning and
I just heard the promo on NEW:
Something along the lines of
"Starting Monday, Ron & Fez in
the afternoon, 2 to 6." So not
only are they changing Ron &
Fez's time slot, but they are
changing the hours of the
afternoon drive from 3-7 to 2-6.
I've always believed Ron & Fez is
clearly a night show. They get
the best callers then and the
style and format of the show fits
best in a night slot. But despite
this, at least this means a
promotion for Ron & Fez. They're
movin' on up. They are worthy of
O&A's former slot. Too bad I
won't be able to listen to them as
often as I can now. Fuck. What
really upsets me is that WNEW is
making a huge mistake by
putting Lick-Ass from 6-10. Could
they not get ANYONE better?
They KNOW for a fact that O&A
fans and just about anyone with
half-a-brain HATES Liycas' guts.
His show fuckin' SUCKS.
Seriously, it is UNBEARABLE.
What are they thinking? Are they
just TRYING to fail now? Liycas
has already tried in NY and
failed...miserably. The
sheer stupidity that goes into a
decision like that... And what
about the eternally undecided
mid-day slot? How damn long
has it been since Don & Mike left?
Boy are they taking their
SWEET-ASS time finding a steady
mid-day show. With R&F doing
best-of mid-day + afternoons,
they'll be on WNEW for 8 straight
hours. Jesus, if I
think about it too hard my nose
will probably start bleeding. I
quit.

I can't agree more. I'm kind of pissed that my fist post on the board has to be to bitch about Tom Lick Ass, but c'mon. He sucks. Regardless, I'm soooo relieved that Ron and Fez are still on the air on WNEW, for the time being. As is true for most of us, I feel a tremendous connection to the show. The boys'll make do in whatever time slot they're in. <P>

I don't mean to nit-pick, but unless I missed something in your post, I don't see anywhere that a format change has been confirmed. I see a time slot shift, but that is very different from a format change, which would mean the station had dropped the talk format completely. If you are intimating that such a switch is imminent, you may be correct. However, I don't think it is necessary to jump the gun and post that something is 'confirmed' when you have no proof.

I think ChickenHawk meant a line-up change. Because there seems to be no change in formats. RnF 2-6 will be something new. and i doubt there ratings will be as good as the 7-11 time slot was. 6-10 will be the worst 4 hours in radio.

I feel sorry for all the WNEW employees. The station was in the crapper for the longest time then all of a sudden they start to turn it around in the ratings. The last book had O and A and R and F killing in the ratings and now bec of one little mistake that got blown way out of proportion (and CBS PR proved completely imept to handle it) it's all over. WNEW will never recover as a talk station. I don't blame the pple at wnew and I'm sure they are as bummed out about this as the fans are.

First of all, Ron and Fez are going to kick ass and take names at the afternoon drive slot.

Secondly, R+F and O+A are buds. O+A would want R+F to get their slot before anybody else.

Thirdly, R+F respect and love O+A, they will not come into the slot and act like they beat out O+A to be there. I am sure R+F will do their best to communicate to O+A that they are proud to be in the slot that O+A kicked with for so long.

What really sucks for me about the new time for Ron & Fez, is that starting in September, I'll be working M-F, 12-6, thus missing R&F.

And of all people 'NEW brings in Tom Lick-ass. When I heard his name on the radio, I threw it against the wall. I hate Lick-ass. I would rather listen to Don & Dike then Lick-ass.

When the boys return, I hope R&F join them on whatever station O&A jump to, and completely blow 'NEW out of the water.

R&F in middays SUCKS ASS, no doubt....But I KNEW they were gong to get moved sooner or later once Don and Mike were gone. WNEW management, or Infinity, whoever is calling the shots....Doesn't know what the fuck they are doing. Look at the revolving door of shows and hosts over he last few years.....Way too much turnover. Nothing lasts long enough in a specific time slot to build a good base. Ron and Fez DO belong on at nights, because It's not the type of show that appeals to the yokels who listen at work. The guys who live on h Howard Stern and O and A are looking for tits and vaginas, and R&F's show is more discussion-based, a little more intelligent. So, this very well could be the beginning of the end for WNEW.....By the way, WHAT POSSIBLE STATION could O and A come back on? I don't think there's anywhere for them to go. If not for Infinity, they might have landed the afternoon spot on K-Rock after Howard, but that's out, so what then? AM? naah....I say stick a fork in O and A....it's over. <P>

Ron and Fez had a good base at late nights, but WNEW changed them to middays. But I have a kick ass idea. Dc listeners deal with about 8 - 12 hours of don and mike, how about 8 - 12 hours of Ron and Fez? of course not live. by the way it looks 10 - 6 will be ron and fez's till a miday show is brought in. so why not get rid of Lick-ass and put another best of on after the live show. the night one could be best of The Dot Com Days. it could be interesting.

Well now I get to listen to Ron and Fez for 1 whole hour a day. Driving home from work.. Well now at least I work out longer in the gym.. I used to do quick work-outs and get out before 8 and then listen to te rest of the show.. Now with Lykis on I have no reason to turn NEW on at all after Ron and Fez.. now i'll lose all the weight I want and maybe get laid.. Thank you Infinity mangagement..

I hate Leykis, but his numbers were on a steady increase when he was fired from WNEW.

I really hate this time change. Look on the bright side, Infinity is now looking for a new afternoon show to syndicate. Hopefully they can get syndicated to Colorado Springs by June.

So O&A and R&f have been tight in the past...but can that really stay true if they end up in competing time slots? The radio biz is a petty one, and it seems like NOBODY gets along, especially between stations...and if O&A do end up on the air, it's almost gotta be drive-time. Morning, they'd get killed by Stern, middays are just too early for their type of show, and I doubt their egos will let them accept a slot after 7 PM. So where does this leave R&F? Well, in the meantime, in a great position. I mean, they've got drive-time, which is THE primo slot...but could they honestly beat out O&A in the ratings? I have my doubts, sadly...

I still don't understand why O&A were fired. A suspension, sure, maybe for a month, but firing? How powerful is this goddamn League?!? O&A were the leading cash cow for WNEW, and they just rolled over like nobody's business...

It seems like everytime Ron and Fez move slots, people are predicting their doom. Remember when theymoved to middays - people said that was a bad slot for them. Then when they moved to nights, people said they could never compete against tv. Look how well they have done there. If Ron and Fez don't succeed in drive time, it'll be cause the station can't weather the loss of O and A, not cause the time isn't right.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet here, I'll point it out. The WNEW.COM home page now shows Ron & Fez in the 2pm-6pm time slot. The "schedule" page shows them on both 10am-2pm AND 2pm-6pm, so it would seem that the best of's will continue and lead into the live shows.



A lot of people will have a hard time listening during work hours. It would be nice if they'd replay the new live show immediately beginning at 6pm. I realize this would make 12 continuous hours of R/F, but I'd prefer that to 12 minutes of Leykis.

if O+A return to radio elsewhere on afternoons, I will stick with Ron and Fez, and only give them a listen if Ron and Fez are "best of's".
