A lot of guys make great nurturers

I just wanted to express my opinion on this. I know a lot of people (and Courts) believe that it is the mother who primarily nurtures a child.

I came from a background that my mother gave me almost NO nurturing when I was a kid, and it has taken me years to forgive her. It was my father who was always there for me, who listened to me, who spent time with me. And I will always love him very much for it. I have a brother who would practically die for his 2 daughters.

I don't know, I just thought I would post this thread because I know a lot of men out there are really nice guys, and this image of a father portrayed everywhere of having nothing to do with his kids is not always true.

COCO - You're right of course. Many guys are the primary nurturers in their family. However, attention is usually not drawn to this (outside of psychology and sociology and feminist litterature) b/c it is so counter our gender stereotypes.

I agree.

I'm honest enough with myself to no that right now in my life, I'm too selfish and self absorbed to care for a child, but I know a lot of men who are great at rasing kids.

This thing in the courts does need to stop. Men should not automatically be counted out, like it seems they are now in custody trials.
