Eight cable television networks have announced plans to suspend programming on the morning of Sept. 11 to honor the victims of last year's terrorist attacks.

At 8:46 a.m EDT, the A&E Television Networks -- A&E, The History Channel, The Biography Channel and History International -- will fade to black. For the following hour and 43 minutes, they will show a continuous scroll of the names of attack victims.

Similarly, the Scripps Networks -- HGTV, The Food Network, The DIY Network and Fine Living -- will stop regular programming at 8:30 a.m ET.

For two hours, the networks will show "a series of images, words and music intended to inspire quiet reflection."

I think this is a nice little tribute.

On 9/11/01 they were all off the air with pictures of the flag and crawls saying things like God Bless America and running emergency numbers. It was as creepy and surreal as that day.

I guess this is nice. But I think that most of us will NOT forget what 9/11 is all about, no matter who scrolls names and images for 2 hours.

And those are most of the channels I can count of for quality programs! History in particular. Oh well, small sacrifice.

How about blacking out QVC for a few hours instead. Or UPN.

I think terrorists attacked you spell check. It took me about three times to read your post to understand your point. And I still don't think I understand your point. I think it is a nice gesture and sure we will never forget the events of that day and the people that were lost, but, it is the one year anniversary and honestly, there is no rule book to say how things should be done in a situation like this. Everyone is doing what feels right. I spent many days searching for people the days after the collapse and I honestly don't feel that remembering the victims is a bad thing, I've never looked for any recognition or praise for the things I did, and I'm sure most of the rest of the people that helped aren't looking for anything else either. Honor the victims, they deserve it. The rest of us get to live with our efforts our memories and our feelings for the rest of our lives.

amen to that.

but seriously, its nice in some sort of way. A&E has the right idea and so does Scripps. Why doesn't ABC do something like that? They did have their feed cut. And were victims themselves. not to sound like "they had it worse off" bur ABC networks should shut down their feed for the 2 hours as a memorial.
