Animal rights activists protest over dead dog art
Animal rights activists in Chile are protesting against an artistic exhibition composed entirely of dead dogs.
Antonio Becerro found the dogs dead on the streets of Santiago. He then stuffed them, painted on their fur and arranged them in different poses.
His exhibition in Santiago's Cine Alameda is titled Oil Paintings On Dogs.
Animal rights activists say the show is disgusting. They have called on the artist to give the dogs a proper burial.
Becerro remains defiant. He said: "I don't manipulate live animals and I'm not the one who killed these dogs by reckless driving."
Patricia Campos, president of Chile's Animal Protection Society, said: "An animal deserves the same respect as a person or child. You can't put on an exhibition of dead children."
Newspaper Las Ultimas Noticias reports Becerro has accused the animal rights protesters of being narrow-minded.
He told the paper: "They are stupid and can get lost. It's not my problem that they can't think properly."
