The United States has announced plans to tighten immigration checks on foreign visitors from 11 September - the first anniversary of the deadly terrorists attacks on New York and Washington.

New INS programme
targets all nationals of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan and Syria non-immigrant foreign nationals who present an elevated national security risk foreign nationals identified by INS inspectors

A new programme by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) will require visitors from certain countries seen as an "elevated security risk" to be fingerprinted and photographed at the border.

It was adopted after the US Congress had required the Justice Department to develop a stricter entry and exit system as part of sweeping anti-terrorist reforms.

"The vulnerability of our immigration system became starkly clear on 11 September," US Attorney General John Ashcroft said.

"This system...will provide a vital line of defence in the war against terrorism."

The measure will mainly affect people from Arab and Muslim countries, and its critics have already warned it will unfairly target certain ethnic groups.

Its about time that legislation like this came into play.

I know I've already ranted on it once today, but this is why the ACLU has got to be stopped. Im all for equality and nice happy shiny things like that, but not at the cost of my safety. The ACLU is trying to get legislations like this stopped everyday because they're "Unconstitutional", by no means do I want to live in a police state, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. You know its going to happen in your travels here, so like Moe said: if you dont like it: Go HOME!

I'd be curious to see how the numbskulls at INS acutally carry this out, these are afterall, the people who granted visas to KNOWN terrorists whose names were all over the papers AFTER THEY WERE DEAD! I work for the government as well, so I'm proof that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to be here, but please people, can we have a modicum of common sense?!?!

INS does not issue visas, thats the State Department. All INS does is look for fraud. But since all of the 9-11 terrorist were issued valid visas, there was nothing they could do legally.

"Credible" threat? Oh, right, in addition to the dozens of other "credible" threats that the U.S. forces there receive EVERY DAMN DAY. There was hardly any more evidence to that threat than the other empty ones they receive. And even though it's not the case here, yes, the U.S. does want to stay on good terms witn Yemen, since they are one of the only countries there to allow us to use their ports. If we want to maintain a presence there, and we need to, we have to keep them on our side.

And by the way, even though it's gonna get me a called "PC" and a "liberal fag", the racial shit in this thread is retarded.
