Just wondering who the Wes Anderson fans are here on rf.net.
if you do not know who he is, he directed and co-wrote (with Owen Wilson) such great films as:
The Royal Tennembaums
Rushmore
Bottle Rocket

he's my all time favorite director. the character development in his movies is beyond compare. Dignen may be the greatest character ever written.
and royal tenebaums is just the most beautifully shot movie ever. here's a little test, pause the movie at any point, and i guarantee that each frame looks like an amazing painting. he's probably the best thing going in film today.

fatty is absolutely right
The amazing thing in Tennenbaums is the attention to detail in each scene.
For example, all the books in all the bookcases in the Tennenbaum house are alphabitized.
What I love personally is the obscurity of each character. Each has a slightly odd way about them, which makes each character so endearing.
I am thinking I like the characters in Bottle rocket the best. As Wes puts it: Dignen is a ambitious under-achiever. That is fucking genious.

i can post in this thread all day.

max and bill murray in rushmore have an incredible relationship too, they treat each other as equals and friends even though they are at least 45 years in age apart.
also the relationship between ben stiller and gene hackman is so great in tenenbaums, him being with him in the end is the most perfect ending, the ultimate way to bring everything together.
one quick tidbit, next time you watch royal tenennbaums watch the scene where bagota is telling gene hackman about his wife's new boyfriend. gene hackman is standing in the street holding a cigarette and the smoke rises. in the background there is a hot dog vendor and the smoke is also rising, almost right next to each other.
that may be the greatest and most genius shot i have ever seen.

it is the rationalization by the characters that intrigues me also.
in Bottle Rocket (after the car breaks down):
Dignan: What a lemon! One minute it's running like a top, and the next it's broken down on the side of the road. And I can't fix a car like this, because I don't have the tools! And even if I did have the tools I don't know if I could fix a car like this!
all his characters go through this - these completely off interpretations of each situation

alsoi, if you notice how he shoots movies, no digitial effects. Only Camera Manipulation.
For example, in Rushmore during the the begining of each month is shown with a curtain opening and the month projected on the curtain.
That was litterally done with a curtain in fron of the camera and a slide projector lighting the curtain.
He makes it a point not to touch the film if he can help it... if he can shoot something he will instead of going back and adding stuff later and tampering with the intitial film

yeah.. I have recently gotten into his work. I Loved Rushmore, and when Tennembaums I just became facinated with his work.
Now I have all 3 movies on DVD, and have wathched them over and over agian, with the directors commentary on so I can learn about how he went about making it.
It truly is amazing to watch him put together these movies and how careful he is to make sure everything is just right.
I highly recommend his movies. Perhaps you me and Fatty should roll one up and get together and have a Wes Anderson Marathon!!!!

From the LA Times:
From LA Daily News: "Bill Murray starring in a flick about a French oceanographer? Such is a project being plotted now, according to Devo co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh, who's already been commmissioned by "The Royal Tenenbaums" scribe Wes Anderson to write the score. There's no script as yet for the movie, according to Mothersbaugh, who's scored every film - including "Bottle Rocket," "Rushmore" (which also starred Murray) and "The Royal Tenenbaums" - Anderson has co-written with hot actor/writer Owen Wilson. Mothersbaugh say Anderson told him he's "been thinking about doing a movie that has only Devo music in it, and it might be this one."
At the Berlin Film Festival (February 2002), Wes stated:
"I have an idea for something but it's not written. We're very slow writers. It's set in Europe and in Mexico and it's kind of an adventure," he said. "There won't be a first draft for six to eight months... the idea is a little bit on the huge side."
The movie's going to be an adventure flick, written by Wes alone.
What hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread (I think, I don't actually read anything Fatty or TomPoo write) is the AMAZING scores found throughout the three movies they've made...it's like Mark Mothersbaugh and Wes Anderson writhe around naked in each others' record collections until the muse tells them which songs go where. The use of "A Quick One While She's Away" by The Who in "Rushmore" is quite possibly the best montage set to music in any movie ever.
And if "Ooh La La" at the end of Rushmore doesn't make your eyes water than you have no heart, my friend.
I found this on the IMDB while checking on the next project:
Each character has a musical instrument in the soundtrack that corresponds to them, i.e. when we see Margot throughout the movie, we hear a harp. Director Wes Anderson attributes this to a "Peter and the Wolf" influence.
Now I have to watch it again just for that.

Pooter is absolutely correct (and you have no idea how much it pains me to say that)
The music adds so much to his films.
1 scene inparticular:
in Royal Tennebaums during Richie's attempt, the song "Needle in the Hay" sets an amazing somber tone...
side note to that scene:
Wes almost cut it out of the movie, because he felt the only way to shoot that scene is to make it graphic and very serious. With that being the case, he was afraid it would derail the movie from its general light-hearted tone.

thank god he didn't cut it out, that scene is amazing, and the film needed that bit of seriousness.
The use of "A Quick One While She's Away" by The Who in "Rushmore" is quite possibly the best montage set to music in any movie ever.
when he used "judy is a punk" by the ramones for the montage of gwentyh paltrow's secret life in tenenbaums i was shocked. that has always been my favorite ramones song and it is not one of their more well known ones, but that just cememted that movie into legend for me.

I watched Bottle rocket again last night, I think my favorite exchange in any of the Movies is this:
Dignan: Bob Mapplethorpe, potential get-away driver: GO!!!
Bob: Well, I think there's a real air of mystery about me.
Dignan: Don't complicate it. Your number one strength is you have a car you can provide. Sell yourself! Start over. READY. GO!!!
Bob: Okay, alright. I'm a risk taker! I'm growin' an entire crop of marijuana plants in my parents back yard! I think that shows -
Dignan: Wait, you're growing an entire crop of marijuana in your back yard?
Bob: Dignan, look. I'm just not very good at this selling-yourself stuff, okay? So, I'm just gonna tell you the truth. I really wanna be a part of this team. And I'm the only one with a car.
Dignan: That's good. That's good. 'Cause that hits me right here. (touches chest)

if you notice about the characters clothing, they still where the same clothes that they wore as children (except Chas... but he still keeps the same routine clothing concept)
they are overgrown children. They all peaked at a very early age and have declined ever since.
Those are the children's greatest flaws.
But these movies are not for everyone, and I certainly understand why someone, such as yourself, wouldn't liek them.
They are fables, they are meant to be on the absurd side, and fictional.

I wish more movies would persecute overgrown children rather than make them into heroes.
i dont' think this movie does this at all. they are definetley not portraying them as heroes, they are not portraying them as anything. it's just telling a story and showing the growth of each character.
i never understood that, a movie has a rape and then critics will say it glorifies it. it's not glorifying it, it's just showing it in a movie.
now if the title is rape is great, and the movie tries to explain the side of the rapist then yes it is glorifiying it. but just because a movie is about overgrown rich children it isn't saying that they are heroes, they are just saying here's a great story that just happens to be about these people. big difference.

I also like the sound effects they play when they are showing the book that a character has written. The sound goes with the books topic.

your ignorant thoughts and inability to respond to civilized conversation is one thing, but your judging of other people you do not know only cements what a dull mind you really have.
you bash other's opinions stating they do not read or that their liking of a radio show make them inferior, yet your comments hold no substanance, your reasoning is poor and your opinions are idiotic.

Oh, I see that your a girl, and a trashy one at that, and that your ignoring me. The funny thing about women is that, when they are pissed, they will try and ignore you. Unfortunately, they can only pretend to. Only men can truly tune people out.

I am gonna be the bigger person and not insult you back. All I ask is the you go the hell away. The voting is over, you have nothing to add to this board except insults.
Thank you Fallon! :)

well i'm not. i've had enough of this guy's stupid unintelligent bullshit. you obviously could not handle defending your useless opinions against me or tompoo so you go and insult a lady? that's some real class shithead.
i'm sorry mommy was so busy fucking everyone else that you have problems watching a movie about a dysfunctional family, but no wait, i'm not.
you're an unenlightened dick whose bitter views of the world are only surpassd by your ability to be unlikeable to all. you cannot match wits with those destroying any ideas you may have had so you go and bash a girl who has said nothing to you and a girl you would kill your father's gay lover to be with, yet you still try to act tough.
enough already, go be an asshole somewhere else. i hope this thread gets locked because i refuse to keep battling with those who are envious the mental capabilites of a 4 year old retard. you are complete nothing, and it is narrowminded ignorant fucks like you that this board doesn't need.
i would try to be the bigger man like Aggie but when my friends are insulted i don't give a fuck anymore.
