View Full Version : The NYC Bar Smoking Ban

I'm not a smoker, but I don't support Bloomberg's idea. I just feel like when you go to a bar you know that people are going to be smoking, anf you know what you're getting into. Ditto if you choose to work there. Many jobs ahve health risks associated with them. Additionally, the health risks of second hand smoking is overstated i think. A person over 35 who is regularly exposed to second hand smoke has a 1 in 30,000 risk of getting cancer. Owning a paraket in the house gives you a 1 in 6000 chance of getting lung cancer. Now, I'm not saying that they should bring smoking back in airplanes and everywhere else, but getting exposed to it in bars on the weekends won't kill ya.

yeah that law is bullshit.
i dont' smoke anymore but i still believe that is should allowed.
why shouldn't the establishment be the one to make a decision on whether or not they allow it, why should the government make the decision?

RIGHT ON!
I don't smoke, in fact I think its kinda gross but I get drunk and puke all over myself, so I don't know if I am entitled to an opinion on that matter. Annyyhooo, Bars are SUPPOSED to be SMOKEY! They are a place you go to enjoy a few vices in life NOT to worry about your lungs. Listen, if you were so damn worried about your health, you wouldn't BE in the bar to begin with. Bloomberg is really turning into a big F'n mistake.

What are we...Californians? Smoking is part of NYC bar culture. Bloomberg has really gone too far this time. I'm willing to put up with the tax hike, but now I'm not even being told where I can and cannot smoke my $7 pack of cigarettes where I please in the city? There are so many other high priority matters affecting New York. I can't understand why he's even wasting the administration's time with such a non-issue.
When you walk into a NYC bar, you expect to deal with second hand smoke. Otherwise, don't walk into that bar and move to fucking California, where you can't even smoke in public.

I'm a non-smoker, I'm surprise this addition to the non-smoking law is unconstitutional. It should be up to the business owner to deicde their is smoke allowed.

BOOOOO That's stupid, plain and simple.
It should be up to the business owner to deicde their is smoke allowed.
It should be up to us to decide a lot of things that the government regulates! That's just the way it is :(

I do smoke and I refrain in restaurants and areas that others who don't smoke may be bothered. I disagree and feel Bloomberg is showing his real colors as a "I know better than you and you will listen to me" type of Democrat in Republicans clothing. People thought Rudy was arrogant Look at this guy.
you have two choices: Castration or a one way ticket to New York

I never like the idea of Government legislating over people's habits or personal choices. How about working on our school system, the awful roads, more efficient mass transit. Bloomberg's jumping aboard an easy bandwagon.

Start voting Republican, and it might NOT have to be that way. Democrats are FOR bigger government, on the whole. Scumbags. They want EVERYTHING in their control so THEY get to dole it out as they see fit.
Keep Smoking, NYC! I'll be there with my Don Diego's!
