View Full Version : My day at work went horribly wrong

OMG, I am about to cry right now. When we had our conference in DC me and another girl at work were in charge of recording the sessions. I don't know who pressed record on this particular session but it DID NOT get recorded and it was the most important speakers. My boss is going to flip. I JUST found out and he is already gone and I just want to go home and never come back. This is a mistake that cannot be changed, so I don't know what to do!!! I just left him a note and will talk to him tomorrow, but I've never done anything like this.
It's not like the last 2 weeks haven't been terrible enough already this had to happen. I give up.

Tell your boss that Slanderous things were being discussed, and false accusations were directed at the CEOs.
( Like THAT is anything new!)
So..YOU turned the recorder off to SAVE your boss' Ass.
Then, you get a praise, raise, a promotion, and flowers everyday!
OR:
Maybe I can do a Voice -Over ( or several ) for you, and re-record the whole meeting!
Aggie..you rock, and I empathize when I hear about anyone's stressful situations.
..Especially in the workplace. So sorry to hear about this.

I used to do similar work in a former job so I know how you feel right now.
Is there a way you can get each speaker's prepared remarks via hard copy or e-mail? Chances are they still have them archived somewhere. You may not be able to get any Q&A that may have taken place but something is better than nothing. Most importantly, your boss should appreciate the fact that you tried to rectify the situation.
Just be honest with your boss. Explain what happened and be honest that you don't know if you or the other person is "responsible". I'm pretty confidant that you are a good employee and that your boss will understand that this was simply a technical glitch.
This is one of those bad days that happens in a career but you WILL get through this OK. :)

i just read this now, is everything okay?
i'm sure the anticipation of what will come was worse than the actual showdown.
sorry about that though, i know what's it's like when everything sucks and something like that has to happen. if it makes you feel better in a week you'll have probably forgotten all about this.

Thank you guys for making me feel better! I wish I could have recorded it again, but it was like 6 different speakers, including the FDA so I'm not about to try and pretend I am them.
Last night I couldn't really sleep, even though I knew there was nothing that could be done. The thing I was most upset about is that they were wanting to sell the tapes from the conference and now they might not be able to.
I had left my boss a note last night and was dreading this morning. I walked in and said "Did you get my note?" and he said "Yeah, don't worry about it." I was suprised and he said it really was OK and not to worry about it. And he didn't look pissed either. I was sooo happy. He obviously can't be pleased but he knows there is not much that can be done and he knows the last two weeks have been hell for me, so I was relieved. At least something turned out OK. Again guys, thanks for the concern! :)

nobody took "Meeting Minutes" ?
Someone did take notes which is the only thing I'm thankful for. The problem is, I work for a small non-profit and there are 5 employees. We had to set up and run a conference for 250 people (hence learning the recording process the day before we left) so unfortunatley, even when the sessions were going on, were weren't able to sit down and take notes.

Doing something malicious would be reason to fear something at work...doing something by mistake is forgiveable. Obviously your boss thinks along the same lines...glad everything worked out...

I think what you need to turn your day around is to have a nice dinner (preferably Italian)do a shot of vodka, and get a hard banging...that would give marked improvement over the way it started...
