Hippie, I respect your opinion. However, though demonized by the media and the left, I also believe that most conservatives are good people, trying to help others, and seeing the good in all.

It is the extremists on both the left and the right who ruin it for the rest of us.

Or Conservative are stupid, Liberals are evil...it really works both ways.

But did anyone else notice that Charles Krauthammer looks like he's related to Mr. Bean?

Not all liberal's actions do it to help others. Some do it for their ego. and some conservatives have thier head so far ass that change of any kind pose a threat their way of life. modreate seem to be able to have some balance compared to the two extremes.

Being someone who has had to deal with Krauthammer's opinions for some time, I can honestly say that he is both. And he looks like an even gayer Charles Nelson Riely.

Here's the deal. To analogize, if a conservative sees a drowning man, he will yell encouragement to him, even offer advice on how to get to shore. If he doesn't make it under his own power, oh well, he drowned, he wasn't meant to live.
A liberal when faced with the same situation will throw a rope, pull the man to shore, pat himself on the back for his good deed, go home, and tell all his friends what a good thing he did. The next time the man goes swimming however, he drowns, because no one taught him to swim for himself.
So which is worse?

Most liberals are wrong, and even racists in some of their policies to believe that certain groups are powerless to defend themselves. A little help doesnt hurt from the government, but self reliance is the most important aspect to be taught from assistance...

Hell lets take a look at politically correctness and how it is ripping our social fabric apart. This is the conglomoration of thoughts of all liberal minds brought together in the hey day of liberalism, The Clinton Years. Now look how it is falling apart around us, and the liberal mentality is still ripping us apart...great policy.

Me personally I am Moderate but have been leaning conservative in the last few years. I believe in the strength of both sides, but dont like when I see one side getting more powerful than the other

Kinda like that, cyber, but a true conservative will only tell a man how to fish, he will not buy the man his first rod and reel. If he can't afford it on his own, he's f*cked.

Conservatives believe it is the right of man to take advantage of his fellow man.

Liberals believe the opposite.

witty, but i wouldn't agree(and didn't you use this already for capitalism and communism?). Everyone believes that they are doing the best thing for society. It's only the methods that differ.

C'mon, King. There is no God, you believe in evolution, right? Survival of the fittest and all that. What's wrong with a little Social Darwinism?

Social Darwinism is based on a misunderstanding of Darwin.

Social Darwinists believe that those who are rich and powerful and healthy (and white) are that way b/c of their superior genes and "deserve" to be that way. They regard themselves as the most "fit."

Those who are not rich, or healthy, or successful (or white) etc, are regarded by the Social Darwinists as unfit.

The problem with this school of thought, which turned into the American Eugenics Movement (culminating in the still controversial Supreme Court decision, Buck v. Bell) neglects to take into account what Darwin's concept of "fitness" is about.

Darwin's theories can be boiled down into its simplest terms as follows: Organisms which are succesfully adapted to their environment survive to breed more than organisms which are less fit to their environment.

And that is the fallacy of Social Darwinism. Fitness per Darwin is measured in terms of sucessful breeding. One need not be a social scientist to immediately acknowledge that the very poor, uneducated and (non-white) have many many more kids than their rich, educated, white counterparts.

An evolutionist would therefore conclude that the rich and successful are less fit than the poor and unsuccessful.

This raises the question of whether it is appropriate and proper to do something about this. I'm very ambivelant about the matter, some days feeling strongly one way, the next the other.

Eugenics is not a dirty word. However, (and this is a big however), eugenics can only be a consideration if criteria are applyed for improvement of the species that are not discriminatory or favoring the privelleged. I don't see how this is possible to accomplish.

Ultimately, I think that genetic manipulation is the answer as opposed to eugenics, b/c (if universally applied) it would give everyone an equal chance of maximizing their potential, without eliminating racial or ethnic variance - variance which is crucial for further evolution of the species.

We're unique in that we have the ability to affect our evolution, much as we've affected the evolution of bacteria, finches, moths, and the myriad of species we've exterminated.

Our large cranial capacity is as much an evolutionary curse as a blessing.

I agree, King. It's an interesting conundrum. Is not the fact that those in power (rich, male, white, but not all rich white males) control the ideologies to maintain their power (read: evolutionary success) a form of Darwinian success? Is the lower classes' inability to rise to power merely the system holding them down or are they simply unable to because they lack, in human terms, the evolutionarily favorable traits to do so?

You gotta go with Kennedy in Sumo, it's a squash. You might as well make it a drinking contest. If you want a real challenging match have them race across the Chappaquiddick Bridge.

Liberals aren't stupid -- they're brilliant. And it all goes back to FDR: keep people dependant upon the government for every facet of their lives and you'll have a voting base that will re-elect you time and again.
