I'm only 24, but even I remember this a couple of times. I was REALLY surprised to see it, but one of the stations I was up watching actually signed off for the night! They played the National Anthem over video of the US Flag waving, and then black screen.

Now I think this is something they should BRING BACK!! Black screen HAS GOT TO BE better than infomercials from 3 till 6 AM! THEY SUCK THESE DAYS! What happened to that guy in the sweater sellin' me DD7?!

There are actually TWO channels right in a row on our cable that still sign off. I hate seeing stations sign off! I think it's SO creepy. Plus, they both go to test patterns, so if you leave the TV on channel 10 or 11 and accidentally fall asleep... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Ill take it one more step further NJDMMOE, how about when Disney used to go off the air, and other cable stations as well...and that cool disney show animal planet with that old guy as host...they would quiz you at end too...God that show rocked...

Insomina sucked back in the day. I agree, those infomercials really suck ass. I remember when you would turn the channels around 4 am and there would be 3 or 4 channels playing the National Anthem at the same time. That was when you knew it was time for bed.

Sweet201- Please list these channels. I'd like to see it again! I hope we have similar channels in our cable systems.

And Doogie76, I never had the Disney Channel as a kid. I was lucky my Cheap Ass family Broke the Bank and paid for Basic.

But as for Infomercials, where has the QUALITY gone! The ONLY one I'll watch lately is this guy who is selling his these COOL ASS knives! Anoterh guy who cuts into everything except his member, and it STILL filets this tomato skin!

But yea, remember the Car Protectant that you could set on fire, and it STILL had the Showroom Shine?

AND WHERE'S MY SHAMMY, YOU BASTARD?!?!

Excellent Chris!Btw,does anyone here remember(pre-cable) the first show in the morning to come on after the test pattern?I forget the channel,but in those days in the NY metro area the big stations for kids under 12 were Channel 5 (Wnew) and Channel 11 (Wpix).Give up?Modern Farmer.If I saw that show on,I knew Colonel Bleep was coming on soon!
