A/C=more rent money?

Ok so my landlady, knocked on my door today, and had a little converstaion with me. She decided to tell me that she knew NOTHING of me getting an A/C. Menwhile, two weeks before I bought the thing, I told her husband that I plan on buying one , which he aproved of and never said a workd about my rent going up to pay for the electric. Long story short my landlady told me today that if I want to use it, I have to pay an addtional 30 bucks a month until the fall or so. Now since this is my first appartment, Im not sure if this is a right thing to do, I mean its not like my apparment is even legal and theres nothing in the lease stating hat I have to pay for electric or any of that other stuff (cant think of the word), so do you think 30 bucks is a wee bit to much to pay to use an A/C for 7 hours at night?

No, I dont think 30 bucks is too much to pay for the privilege of having a/c, especially since summer is really only one more month. But someone up there had a good question...if its an illegal apartment. whats with a lease? if the apartment is illegal, the lease is null and void.

i rent and pay the electric bill.........the a/c in the summer. I have electric heat and even pay for that in the winter....... I dont think thirty bucks for a few months is that much to ask. <P>

Yeah any rent increase sucks of course but $30 a month for a/c is worth it.
