I'm just amazed at how some people can lead their lives in devotion to a sports team. I mean I really like the Yankees and wear my Yankee cap and all, but I have trouble understanding sometimes how people live their entire lives around something like a team.
Even on an unrelated message board, people go out of their way to announce their love of a team. From using it as your board name, like NYDragons, to putting it in your sig, like Fallon and his Yankees sig, asking for a status or anything else like that.
I know I enjoy watching the Yankees trounce Boston as much as the next guy, but it's just a game to me, not a lifestyle.

Sports are fun. I love rooting for my teams and wishing injury to the star players of my rival.
I like watching rookies devlope into superstars.
I hate all of the New York teams, but I like all of you guys on the board. It's just fun to talk and bitch about.

I think it's just like how some people are so devoted to Star Wars. Only cooler ;)

I'm okay until the Stanley Cup playoffs begin, then I'm 24-7 hockey nut in thermal underwear & a Bruins cap.
Hockey: a sport that combines my two favorite things -- ice skating and head trauma.

have you ever played sports jon? if you did you must understand somewhat how people grow up playing sports, don't play anymore but still live their sport fantasies through thier favorite teams.
i never made it to the pros in real life but in my fake sport world i've won a lot of championships.

well, fatty, this thread was inspired by my buddy Fallon, who has seen the light after this weekend's series. Now, he can't shut up about how much he loves the Yanks

I never had that problem Jon. I enjoy everything.
Life is a buffet, and I'm a fat guy on that line going for seconds and thirds.
Sports, music, film, history, politics, whatever floats your boat.

Jon, I myself enjoy sports like the rest of these freaks. It's just one of my passions I have.
It's not a lifestyle but its just fun... and its always great to make fun of Boston fans. As a lifelong Met fan, I can't rag on the Yanks as much so I have to take it out on Mr. 1918 over there, lol. :)

I'm really not as big a sports fan as I once was. I still watch sports a lot, but I don't have the time to watch as much as I used to.

Sports are a big part of my daily routine and I have my favorite teams but in the end, it's just entertainment to me, not life and death like it is to some people.

Jon, it's like this. Sports gives people a high that's undescribable. (Sure sometimes it's related to the alcohol you're drinking when you're watching a game, but theres more to it than that.)
When I'm sitting down and watching a Knicks or Mets or Jets game that really matters, that is do or die, it's like this whole feeling comes over me. I live and die with every basket, every pitch, every 3rd down...the highs and lows are amazing. It's really a natural high.
It's addicting to just be on that emotional roller coaster for those few hours. I'm sure you've encountered people in your life who live their entire lifes like they're on a roller coaster of emotions, with ups and downs all the time, way more than the average person. Well by watching sports, you can ride that wave of emotional ups and downs in a controlled sort of way. And after 2-3 hours, you can go back to normal life and move on. The experiences will stay with you, but it's not life-changing.
It's such a high that it's hard to describe, and it's such a low that it kills ya sometimes...ever hear an old guy call into a radio station upset about his sports team? These are guys who you know can't tell their kids they love em, and yet they're so passionate and crazy about their teams that they're willing to yell about them on the radio just to show their love for 'em.
You just have to think of something that you're passionate about. Something that gives you a natural high. Not sex, not drugs, not alcohol, but something natural that gives you super highs and super lows in a different way.
And whats great about it is that every year, it's different. One year it's low, one year it's high, one year it's high and low. It's the best natural high there is Jon. THat's the best way I can describe it.
