Credit cards are the devil. You're just ensuring that you will owe someone money years after you spend it. I only have one Mastercard and my Debit card. I went over the limit. Thank god I only had one. But I worked something out so my credit will be fine. I learned my lesson!

The best advice regarding student rates on credit cards is this...DON'T GET ONE! The credit card complanies market to college students with free gifts and whatnot and screw you over on the rates, and since most people in college need money, they're doomed to be in credit card debt...just don't get one unitl you can handle paying it off! :)

to start with if you really want one, get a low credit limit and pay it off fully the first few times. that will establish your account .
Just be very careful, you really need a very strong self discipline. I myself have a few but only use one and pay it off every month.
you have two choices: Castration or a one way ticket to New York

If you want to be in debt get a credit card unless you have a supreme amount of will power not to over use one. I thought about getting the discover card

Credit cards aren't trouble until you spend more than you can pay. Pay off your bill in full each month and you'll have no prob. Debit cards are more dangerous I feel, since they take the money directly out of your account right away, and if there's a mistake, it's hard to get the money back.

I once had a dream where a computer glitch forced Bill Gates to pay off every American's credit card.

I would say stay away from the credit cards till you are a little older... the cards are dangerous... but if you really want that bad get an american express because you have to pay off whatever you bought at the end of the month and some minimal payment....

American Express is a good card to start out with, because as mentioned before, you have to pay in full each month (charge card, instead of credit card).
If you do get a credit card, make sure that you have a LOW credit limit on the card when starting out. Too many people start out with their card and it feels like you're getting stuff for free when you just swipe the card through. I started out with a $400 credit limit, and paid it off each and every month. In College, I paid for my books and floated it till the end of the semester, then paid it off.
Credit cards can be dangerous, but also useful.
