I went to Girl Scout camp in the late 70s. Worst 12 days of my life!

I went to USDAN. It was some where on Long Island. I remember there were hundreds of buses of kids from all over NY going there. It was a Jewish camp ( I had friends who were Jewish that got me in). It was pretty cool you day was split between playing sports and swimming and the rest of the day taking music lessons. I took guitar lessons for 2 years.

Harry Chapin would come every year and perform. This was back in 75-76.

We want Ron and Fez live in DC.

Dear Camp Annwanna
We hold you in our hearts.
And when we think about you
It makes me wanna fart!
(It's I hope we never part, now get it right or pay the price)

Now we will share a lifetime of the fondest memories
By the Lake of Annawanna
Set in the old pine trees
Camp Anna . . .
We hold you in our hearts
But when w . . .
This thing came apart.

I can't believe I still remember that song. I used to watch that show religiously.

Long live Danny Cooksey, Donkey Lips and counselor Kevin 'Ug' Lee

Bump.

For some reason, I thought about summer camp today. I went one summer when I was younger, and it was OK (it was also a religious themed camp) but I felt it was too "natural" for me. Real camp - tents, etc.

So I went to a more activity-driven camp the next summer, and I hated it.

I think, given the choice, I would have returned to the religious camp.

I see the bus that I rode on as a kid sometimes. The school was ok played games and stuff. Then got ride home.

Boy Scout camp in Mendocino for 2 weeks every summer. I loved it, even when I failed one of the merit badges and cried like a bitch. Also one of the few times I've been naked (non private showers) in front of someone I'm not related to or married to.

I remember Summer camp at Little Manatee River. I had my first cliche Summer camp romance.

I went to camp. It was called something like Camp Meh Kee Yah or some dumb shit like that. It was in Harriman State Park. I didnt mind it but I hated having to swim. They used the lake and it just felt gross. I hated it. Everything else was pretty cool though.

Camp was where I learned to shoot a bow and arrow. Last I heard I was still 1 of only 2 people to ever get 3 bullseyes in 3 arrows at camp. And both of us did it on the same day.

They had a camp that our elementary school sent 6th graders to for a whole week (back in the 70s) during the school year. That would have been a nightmare for me. Thank god my parents got me out of it and I got to stay behind and do "busy work" with the 5th graders the entire week. Totally worth it. I don't think they do that anymore but I don't know. It seems weird to make school kids go to camp.

Ramapo Jackson Whites paid my dad in venison for dental work. He didn't seem to mind. That was a good winter as I remember like 1978~9. Skating, hockey, wood splitting and wrestling. Things were simpler then.

As a city kid I went to summer camp once. It was called Golden Slipper Camp somewhere in the Poconos. I was 9 and about 2 weeks into it I got into an argument with a 19 year old counselor. I verbally tore him apart so bad he just lost it and beat the shit out of me in front of about 30 kids on the basketball court.

What a fiasco. The head of the camp had to call my father and convince him not to drive to the camp because he had already fired the counselor and sent him packing.

Funny thing is the guy was a complete bully and dick to all the campers so after he got fired I was basically a hero over there for the rest of camp.

My public school was still sending 5th graders to camp in the 90s. I think it was only 3 days/two nights though.

I did cubscout camp twice and the second time we had this other troop with us, and one of them was the most nervous kid I've ever met. Someone asked us if home sickness was affecting our appetites and he'd start dry heaving. He'd cry all the time and mope around. One day we were walking back to our camp site and he goes tearing off in front of us. We get back to camp and he's in his tent pulling up new pants. I go to take a pee, he had shat all over the latrine.

We all watched the black camp cooks swim because we had no idea what happens to black peoples hair when it gets wet.

i went to the hartman Y (YMHA) daycamp in lovely far rockaway for years ... the overwelming majority of the camp was for conservative and hassidic jewish kids (religiuos studying with swimming)

they carved out a small, secular day camp for budding japs from the five towns, latch-key kids from rockaway & belle harbour and some inner city kids from the ghettos of edgemere and hammels

we were second class citizens: all the secular camp activities revolved around the religious camp, and rarely did the two meet ... especially, since it was the late 80s, there was always fights between the black & jewish kids -- reinacting little versions of crown heights ... plus, we all had to eat/keep kosher ... kosher cafeteria camp food is as awful as can be

i worked in a summer camp that shared a campus with one of those hassidic camps. it was pretty bad. i only did it for one summer. i also wore short shorts and tight tanks becuse it pissed them the hell off. heh heh heh.

when i went to lunch, i would get a lot of questions about how cheese burgers and pepperoni pizzas taste lol. i would sometimes get a burger and milkshake for lunch too. the looks i got when i ate them were great.

I went to a camp on Long Island named USDAN I think it is still there. It was pretty cool I took guitar lessons for half a day and then it was swimming and rec time. I only went for 2 summers and both years Harry Chapin came and played a concert for everyone.

You must have killed a lot of small animals during the summer. I imagine you were pretty adept at peeping as well.
