On Saturday I had to attend my brother-in-law's funeral. My sister has been divorced from him for about 5 years.

He had a drug and alcohol problem for years that he could not beat. During her years of marriage, he had been to rehab about 5 times - 2 times almost died. So it wasn't for lack of trying. Drugs and alcohol, I believe, simply take over people's lives; it gets ahold of them and they absolutely can not get out of its grips, I believe, without the help of God and AA and rehab programs.

Anyway, he was found dead outside of a bar in his car from an overdose. The sad part about it is that he was in an out-patient program at the time of his death.

My sister divorced him for her own sanity and for the sake of her two sons.

Anyway, I will never never forget the look on her one son's face of sheer panic and confusion at the funeral. He truly loved his father.

So, if any of you is kind of deciding whether to get off of drugs and alcohol, do it for those who love you!

Well, no one responded to your post Coco, so I will. Sorry to hear that. No matter how badly a man screws up, it's always sad to see children grow up without a parent.

And a lot of people will say shit like "He knew what he was doing, so it's not that sad when a junkie dies", but those people are usually pricks. It is sad, and when you dig deeper to see his life, and in this case family, you see how sad it is.

Always remember the wise words of Ron: "It don't make you a bad person."

Coco,
im very sorry for your loss.
However, there is a major difference between drug use and drug abuse.
Unfortunately it sounds as if he was an abuser.
May he R.I.P.
