Not the "No Doubt" crap of today, I'm talking Madness, The Specials, The Selector, etc.
Anyone?

A few years ago, I got to see a reunion show for The Specials and members of The English Beat were there also to do some classics along with them.

I remember Madness' "One Step Beyond" video from the early days of MTV.

Of course the Bosstones count. They never tried to go pop. They were always true to their ska roots and were around for years before ska exploded. Most importantly, their music kicked ass.

They also did "House of fun" when they were all in the pub and Viv's mom was the waitress.

ahh finally the old school ska thread. and the answer is... yes!

i'd put the specials among my 20 bands ever, probably... i will never tire of hearing a song like "gangsters," no matter how much new music there is. madness, selecter, english beat, the skatalites, the toasters... i'd even go as far as to say desmond dekker, even though he might be a little more reggae than anything else.

some of the newer ska is pretty good too. not like no doubt and crap. but bands like the pietasters, the scofflaws, the ny ska jazz ensemble, the slackers, mephiskapheles, etc. have actually put out some really good music in the past couple of years...

No Doubt??? They haven't been a true ska band since their first album or probably even before that. C'mon where'd you get that name from? 1997 end of year rock hitmakers.

i'd even go as far as to say desmond dekker, even though he might be a little more reggae than anything else.

He's the godfather of ska. Dekker, Toots & the Maytals, the Skatalites got ska going. The Specials, Selecter, Beat revived it all.

I've seen Fishbone a few times and they have a ska-punk thing going. Crazy motherfuckers. But they can do the rocksteady pretty well when they want to.

Did anyone ever the movie "Dance Craze" I have the sound track on vinyl and cd. It was a series of concert clips with the english beat, selecter, madness, bad manners, and the specials plus a few other bands. The sound track is great. Unfortunately the cd does not include the madness tracks due to contractual problems.

We want Ron and Fez live in DC.

The Ska movement became the new punk movement in the 90's, so. . . But i do remember some of the Special stuff. not to fond of ska though.

I could type everything about ska, how it began, who led each wave and stuff. And if you really want me to, ill do it, but im tired.

Heck - No Doubt isnt ska, they are pop-punk. And the specials rock.

Third wave ska is whats out now, thats the Pilfers, Bosstones, RBF, Goldfinger, Catch 22 and others.
