Excluding Star Wars and Star Trek, which robots from movie and tv history do you consider to be the all time best characters?
I nominate the Robot from Lost in Space.

Robocop wasn't a robot - he was a cyborg (a human with robotic parts).
I don't recall Ultraman being a robot, but rather a guy who had a gizmo that he could use to grow to gigantic proportions and fly etc. He certainly wasn't controlled by a Japanese kid. I think you're referring to Gigantor.
My favorite robots include:
TOBOR - Back, tobor back!
Crooooooow and Tom Servo but not Gypsy
Robbie - Forbidden Planet
Gort - Klatu Brada Nikto!
Terminator - Back in 2003

Ron dislikes Robots.
As he was railing against the machines, I started listing off the diff robots in movies and tv and there are a lot; 600 movies w/ a robot in them according to one movie site. I'm guessing this has been a thread too, but...
Your favorite robot?
I'm guessing not Mechagodzilla

do cyborgs count?
I think it depends upon your definition of cyborg.
Merriam Webster's defines cyborg as being a person whose phisological functioning is aided by or dependant upon a mechanical or electronic device. An example of this is the Six Million Dollar Man, who originated in a book called Cyborg, and Darth Vader. If you go with this definition, then no.
I think cyborg has been defined elsewhere to be an organism with artificial and natural systems. Query whether adding flesh, etc. to a Terminator is creating natural systems. I think probably not. The flesh, etc. was just a disguise for the robot.
But assuming it does, under this definition, it would include beings we think of robots (with a computer "mind" as opposed to an organic mind), that are given organic "systems" as opposed to a human being who is given mechanical/electronic devices in his/her body.
I'd say the former should be included, and not the latter.

Well, when there is no skin (like pictured in this thread) then it's no longer a cyborg by any definition. And it is probably my favorite
[B]And Androids count! They are robots, just a specific type of robot, ones made to look and act human, like Data, while robots like R2-D2 are not (despite being called a "droid") Data didn't like being called a "Robot" and would correct people, but technically it isn't an incorrect term, probably just offensive to him or something.

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Star Wars.
(My dad had the soundtrack on a vinyl double album. And I saw Jedi in the movie theater. And I remember the Ewok special that you were supposed to tune your radio for a simulcast "in stereo" or somesuch, but I didn't get into the whole mythos. Honestly, I never paid much attention to it until college when I was identified as a deprived child, because all of my new friends had seen the films a million times. And this was remedied within hours of learning that I had not seen Star Wars at a friend's apartment.)

Cambot is the one rarely seen (and thus forgotten) since it was the camera.

...The guys from Battlestar Galactica are "sort of" but not if you believe the books.
The silver/gold things from the old shows are robots made by an organic reptilian race called Cylons (and the robots were called that too)
In the new show there are metal robots called Centurions and human looking Cylons, but they are a synthetic biological organism, so I would call them robots too but I guess that is debateable. I see them as just more advanced types of robots than more conventional Metal or Plastic robots they use as labor. Hey what if the Centurions turn on the Humanoid Cylons in the same way the Clyons turn on Humans in the show?

Well, what's the answer then?

Don't forget Timmy (Crow's evil twin) and all the copies Tom Servo made of himself (before all of them self-destructed)
Okay, the question was vague and ambiguous. It wasn't how many robots appeared on the Satellite of Love during the run of MST3K. It was how many robots were on the SoL with Mike & Joel. I took it to mean how many robots were living on the SoL with those two.

Well, what's the answer then?
Five. Crow, Tom, Gypsy, Cambot and then the oft-forgotten but always present Magic Voice. Based on the interractions between her and the others, especially Joel, she's clearly another creation of Joel's, though without a body. I guess she's more AI.
I should really just relax.

Ah, but is the Magic Voice a robot or the voice of the computer of the ship itself, ala the voice of the Enterprise on ST: TNG? If so, I wouldn't classify her as a robot. Just as I wouldn't classify HAL on 2001 as being a robot. He's a sentient computer.

Quiet, Nerdy McNerdatron. Joel built five sentient mechanical beings to keep him company on the SoL, and Magic Voice is one of them. QUIT INSULTING MAGIC VOICE.
Besides, if you're gonna discount her, you can't count Gypsy. She's just the ship itself.

If we are being technical, then the real answer is ZERO.
Those are all puppets, and there were many of each one made throughout the years. And it wasn't really a satellite as they were able to fly it around (to the end of the universe and through time)

Eli, you are from Mn right? Did you ever catch MST3000 when it was on channel 23 back in the late 80's, when it was pretty much a public access show?
Best robot is Bob from The Blackhole, any robot with Slim Pickins voice is a winner in my book.

Where I lived, we didn't get channel 23. I never heard about MST3K until I was in college on the east coast and read about it in an article by Newsweek (I believe). I actually remember the moment I first read about the show because I was supervising a college weight room and was reading a magazine about it.
