are you a narc?

actually, the legalization of marijuana is on the platform of the green party. and the amount that is considered "illegal" is regulated by each state, so your grass roots petition would be better off going state by state

No.

But my reluctance to see it legalized is based on fears of setting a dangerous legal precedent. For example, if you legalize pot someone could say "well if pot is legal, then why not mushrooms and coca leaves? THEY'RE organic too." Then, why not heroin or acid?

Additionally, it may not merely be an argument to make drugs legal in as much as it may be a tactic by defense lawyers for accused dealers to see reduced jail times for their clients

I realize I may be making wild speculation here but given the recent Pledge of Allegiance ruling, all it takes is one judge's interpretation to set legal precedent.

I'd like to see it legal. I HATE that our government acts like our fucking parents. How about I tell YOU what I can handle.

Actually, I don't even like what POT does to me, so I never got into it. But all the people I know who do smoke don't use it as a "gateway" drug, or any shit like that. They get high, and eat some Drakes cakes.
Wow, that's dangerous.

Mind your own Fucking Business, Uncle Sam. How about you legalize Pot, THEN send all those Government agents searching for it to cover the borders, and look for terrorists.

EVIL REIGNS!!!

The Slippery Slope Fallacy:

The Slippery Slope is a fallacy in which a person asserts that some event must inevitably follow from another without any argument for the inevitability of the event in question. In most cases, there are a series of steps or gradations between one event and the one in question and no reason is given as to why the intervening steps or gradations will simply be bypassed. This "argument" has the following form:

1) Event X has occurred (or will or might occur).
2) Therefore event Y will inevitably happen.

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because there is no reason to believe that one event must inevitably follow from another without an argument for such a claim. This is especially clear in cases in which there is a significant number of steps or gradations between one event and another.

Examples of Slippery Slope

"We have to stop the tuition increase! The next thing you know, they'll be charging $40,000 a semester!"

"The US shouldn't get involved militarily in other countries. Once the government sends in a few troops, it will then send in thousands to die."

"You can never give anyone a break. If you do, they'll walk all over you."

"We've got to stop them from banning pornography. Once they start banning one form of literature, they will never stop. Next thing you know, they will be burning all the books!"

Just because we legalize pot, doesn't mean everything else comes rushing in after it. We are a conservative fuckin' nation, and I doubt we'll even see Marijuana legalized in our lifetime.

ok so it's legal in Holland.. other countries always seem upset about that, but we don't really care..

cause I can only talk for myself ofcourse, but I've never even felt the need to try it, while it's real easy to get and it's legal. So it's not like everybody is going to run out to buy it when it gets legal..

But I guess people who want to use it, will use it anyway.. legal or not..

I am completely in favor of the legaliziation of marijuana, and all drugs for that matter, but that's a different topic. Let's stick to weed for now. I'm not saying it's harmless, but neither are cigarettes and alchohol. It's really an obscenity that adults get dictated to by the government the ways in which they can ruin their lives. Butts and beer, okay. Weed and Coke, bad. You know what else bothers me? The whole gateway drug argument. People who do hard drugs are likely to have started out with Pot. Well not everyone who smokes Pot goes on to Heroin or whatever. I bet they all drank soda at one point in time too. Why isn't Sprite classed as a gateway drug, or Mt. Dew. I know I'm hooked on it.
It should be legalized and sanctioned like drinking. You can't do it on the street, you can't operate a vehicle, etc . . . The only problem I see is people freaking out over the legalization and doing it all the time. I don't want to see my heart surgeon walking into the OR with a spliff hanging from his lip, just the same as I don't want him cutting into me with a Pabst Blue Ribbon in his other hand. I don't do it often, like twice in the past year and I haven't bought since high school, so legalization wouldn't affect me so much, but it just doesn't make sense to me to keep it illegal.

That's why I tried to qualify my comments. I didn't mean to imply that such things were inevitable , just that they were possible.

Personally, I have no problem with making pot legal. I think it's no worse than drinking.

yea ive waited to til i knew most people have finished posting their opinions and id like to respond.
first of all the petition is to help get the issue of legalization on the ballot in new york and new york alone. but hey if NY sets a precedent alot of the country is going to follow. just look at driving and cell phones.
second as far as amsterdam goes it is legal however, the percentage of people who use or have tried marijuana in holland is far lower than it is in the US., even though it is legal.
thirdly allowing marijuana to be legal will most likely not help hard core drugs to become legal. people do not view marijuana the same as other drugs. i personally dont want other drugs to be legal but i see it as this if we can grow it then nature intended us to use it. but i kno that wont be popular with other people.
please help me change this damn fascist thinking as far as weed is concerned.
you can go to www.mpp.org to find out more hey it doesnt make u a bad person!

Phixion, your first post made me think that you weren't very serious about this, that you were just some stoner wanting to get legal pot, but after reading your second post, which you backed up with strong information, you made your point much clearer. I'm going to that website right now.
