Wilson, having hit four fouls off Stanley when the Red Sox's big righthander was one strike from wrapping up this Series, slapped a full-count offering to first baseman Bill Buckner. The grounder somehow got through Buckner's legs, and Knight bolted home on the error. New York, time and again getting extended life, had won, 6-5, and deadlocked the 1986 fall classic.
And went on to win the series. Sigh...I love reminiscing. It must suck being a Boston fan.

that we shall pay any price,
bear any burden, meet any hardship,

Yes, being a Boston fan is tough -- particularly when you have been defending Buckner since 1986.

It wasn't his fault they lost. The game was tied at that point and closers Bob Stanley and Calvin Schiraldi both were one strike away from winning and failed to get it done.

True, but you've still you've got to make that play! It didn't lose the game, but it sure helped.

the only reason im happy as a met fan. this season sucks.

i think Buckner may have been hit by a spitter on the grassy knoll when the play happened.

True but Buckner put them in that series as much as anyone (except for Dave Henderson).

Buckner got a raw deal in Boston. What made it worse was the fact that the Sox have not won since 1918.
In case you younger guys never saw him in his prime, he was an excellent hitter.
In that game, the Sox pitching blew it. The shellshocked Sox fans needed a scapegoat, and Buckner was the right guy to dump on.

Buckner did get a raw deal and its sad, but there is always a goat. He had a decent career but he wil lalways be known for game 6. Dont get me wrong I am a huge fan of the mets, but its sad
