View Full Version : Bad Music Of The 70's

For starters: Cat Stevens.
I wanted to date this chick who loved his music.
We hung out and partied while she insisted on playing "Tea For The Tillerman" and "Teaser And Firecat". It was worse than having a gook sticking bamboo chutes under your fingernails..and the sad thing is I can never forget the damn songs to this day!
I started humming "Wild World" the other day and I almost puked. God, Stevens was awful!
Anyone else haunted by bad 70's music? I'm sure I'll think of a few more.

I never could get into Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Loggins and Messina or any of those soft-rock folkies. My mother liked that crap.

Heckler --- how could you forget the two biggest bad music stars of the 70s: John Denver and Barry Manilow?!?!?

really bad 70s music

If I hear another track from Frampton Alive I will scream. At my old job they kept 104 on all day and they played "Do you feel" like 20 times a week. I hate that stupid voice guitar effect it reminds of a bad 70s rock flick

AJ, you're obviously unaware that Heckler is the acting President of the Barry Manilow fan club.

His rendition of "Mandy" has moved me to tears on more than one occasion.

I apologize for my blatantly offensive comments in regards to Messers Denver and Manilow. Maybe I'm just tired of the playing of "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" during every 7th inning stretch at Camden Yards as well as the Barry Manilow overkill my mother subjected me to when I was a child in the 1970s.

As a matter of fact, I'm guilty of playing "Copacabana" with my college band during Homecoming Week. :(

Does Heckler take requests? How about "Could This Be the Magic"? :)

Neil Young: the guy can rock and wrote some great songs, but his ballads and mellow stuff were awful.
Sadly, many chicks loved Neil's sap, so sitting through such crap as "Cinnamon Girl" was necessary. Thank God for Boone's Farm, it lessened the pain.

Seasons In The Sun ( Terry Jacks )

Goodbye to you my trusted friend We've known each other since we were nine or ten Together we climbed hills and trees Learned of love and A B C's Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.

Goodbye my friend it's hard to die When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air Pretty girls are everywhere Think of me and I'll be there

We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the hills that we climbed were just seasons Out of time......

Goodbye Papa please pray for me I was the black sheep of the family You tried to teach me right from wrong Too much wine and too much song Wonder how I got along.

Goodbye Papa its hard to die When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air Little children everywhere When you see them I'll be there.

We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song like the seasons Have all gone.

We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song like the seasons Have all gone.

Goodbye Michelle my little one You gave me love and helped me find the sun And every time that I was down You would always come around And get my feet back on the ground.

Goodbye Michelle it's hard to die When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air With the flowers everywhere I wish that we could both be there

We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the stars we could reach Were just starfish on the beach

We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the stars we could reach Were just starfish on the beach

We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song like the seasons Have all gone

All our lives we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the hills that we climbed were just seasons Out of time......

We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun

Truly awful.

Sorry Heckler, but you can't knock Neil Young & expect to get away with it. His 70's stuff is phenomenal. Throughout his career, Young has alternated between the laid-back/mellow, druggy stuff and crushingly loud electric guitar rock with Crazy Horse. Both extremes proved equally influential.

Pray for Mojo.

Hey, I like Neil, it's just that many of his ballads sound like a cat in heat.
One of my worst memories is laying with a gf tripping and hearing "look at Mother Nature on the run in the 1970's". Ugh! I almost jumped off the roof!
But, I am a fan..I even liked "Trans" LOL!

STYX: THey were the worst.
Chicks loved that "I'm Sailing Away" crap, I would say that this band is one of my all time most hated.
Thank God punk came out and "corporate rock" crap like this died.
That was always a "coolness" barometer..if you owned a Styx album you were probably a douchebag, especially "Mr Roboto"!

Outside of "American Pie", which I can't stand anymore, Don Mclean made me sick. So did Kansas, Yes and Supertramp

Whatever happened to "Seals and Croft"?
They were pumping out hits all through the 70's, and then they vanished. They sucked, but they sold millions of records. OK, I can tolerate "Summer Breeze", but the other stuff is crap.

How can one live with themself and say that Otis Redding was "bad". He was not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good.

Whoever said that John Denver was bad can also go fuck themselves. Same goes for Barry Manilow. If anyone dares to say Neil Diamond, you don't want to see what happens.

Now I realise that there were some bad bands and music in the 70's but was it really any worse than the tripe we hear on the radio these days? I would take the Starland Vocal Band or Hamilton, JoeFrank and Reynolds ANY day over the likes of the Creed and 3 Doors Down of today. At least it seemed like they had a soul.

Muskrat Love
America
from Greatest Hits
(1971)
Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
doin' the town and doin' it right
in the evenin', it's pretty pleasin'

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug
Out in the muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jinglin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibblin' on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie
"Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she says yes with her kisses

And now he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her ties
muzzle to muzzle now
anything goes
as they wiggle
and Sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jinglin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love
