At one time, Wonderbread was considered healthy, "building strong bodies, 12 ways".
Now we hear that Wonderbread is crap.
First Tang. Now this. We are doomed.

We were always told that wheat bread was healthy. Didn't Wonder Bread come out with a wheat version also? And how healthy can wheat bread be if you're making peanut butter & bacon sandwiches on it? (Don't knock it until you try it - THEY'RE DELICIOUS! I copped the recipe from Elvis)

As a kid, I ate peanut butter and Fluff on Wonder Bread almost daily. Nothing like a noontime diabetic coma to break up the day.

Heckler, what these young whipper-snappers don't realize is the Wonder Bread was"Thee" bread. It was a staple(sorry Billy) in everyones home! That is until the Hippies grew up,got jobs, joined the establishment, and ruun-it for everybody by advertising that bleached glutonized bread wasn't any good.Well poo-poo on you guys.In my house we make routine trips to the Hostess Outlet, buy multiple loaves for 25 cents, take it home and eat it like fucking candy...........yeah baby!!!!

I think I have mentioned this in an old "Romper Room" thread but,do you remember the "mini" Wonder Bread loaves? They would give them to the little brats on the show.
I'd get mine from the "bread man" who came around weekly in a truck much like those old milk trucks. He would come to your door with a tray of all kinds of goodies.Kinda like an Entenmann's home delivery service.
Damn; I wish I was 5 again! That was really the good 'ol days, when I used to wish people into the cornfield. Now I have to settle for activities like this.

We were always told that wheat bread was healthy. Didn't Wonder Bread come out with a wheat version also?
Yes, Wonder Bread now has a wheat form . . . which isn't much better for you than the original, so don't bother.
And how healthy can wheat bread be if you're making peanut butter & bacon sandwiches on it? (Don't knock it until you try it - THEY'RE DELICIOUS! I copped the recipe from Elvis)
I have an Elvis recipe postcard for fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, is that what you meant?
If you're wanting health benefits, BTW, you have to read the ingredients list in your bread. If the 1st ingredient listed isn't "whole wheat flour", you're fooling yourself into thinking your wheat bread is good for you.
My mom also wouldn't buy Wonder bread and described the taste as "gummy" or "flat", something I never understood as a small child (and still do not understand to this day) but it set up all kinds of bread-envy, especially since she used to BAKE HER OWN WHOLE WHEAT BREAD, flavored with, GET THIS, grated orange zest.
Imagine being 5 and trying to eat peanut butter and jelly on something that has the same mouth-feel and general taste of cardboard. . . all the while staring at the other kids with their Wonder bread sandwiches with the crusts cut off. . . I was so jealous!!!!
Needless to say, my first taste of Wonder Bread was heavenly. Mmm.

My dad used to whip us up nice peanut butter and bacon sandwiches on toasted wonder bread. They were the best, and now I hear Elvis liked 'em too? What better endorsement can you get/ So run right out, grab some Skippy, bacon and a big ol'loaf of Wonder bread and go nuts!!!!

Oh shit.......I used to put Tang on Wonder Bread and call it a "Tang-wich". Now I know why I'm all messed up today. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that Cookie Crisp cereal was not healthy for me.

Yes, what a great blast from the past! Like it was a lobster tail or something...I remember making my mom buy me a loaf of Home Pride and expecting to find liquid butter in the middle similar to the Freshen-Up gum liquid center....Damn was I dissapointed. Might as well been that other bad bread commercial, Roman Meal. It always made me wonder what the fuck that had to do with the Romans!
